  1. Powell 795 A-rig rod, Chronarch E6 and 65lb braid or 20# hybrid.
  2. I think heard somewhere it was around 70 hr per yr.
  3. I've thrown them on 8# mono, 10#FC and 12#hybrid this winter. I like the hybrid best of all three.
  4. Me too. I guess I should pick it up and read it at least since I can't fish cause my shoulders messed up.
  5. I've never had any problems towing my boat with my 4x2 but I try to avoid steep ramps also. It helps having a light aluminum rig too. My next truck will be a 4x4 for sure though.
  6. I'm going to look into a champion or extreme spinning rod.
  7. RW is right its more like a ribbon. I don't really care for it, if I need braid I use sufix. That being said I do keep one of my spare spinning reel spool filled with the neon green 14# for night fishing because it shows up fairly well under the black lights and the no stretch gives me a good hook set whiles fishing my jig in deep water.

I'm going to give one a try on my 7'11 cumara even though its not rated for more than an oz. Still think $15 is pretty steep for a bait you have to change hooks out on first thing.
  9. Those dobyns are awesome rods. I have 2 champion series and I love them. I don't have any spinning rods but was thinking I might sell this rod and buy one.
  10. I haven't got to fish with it yet so I can't say its not a better rod. My first impression was not a good one though. I don't know what I will do if I break the other 4 I have. It just seems to me that Shimano has started making things cheaper. I have thousands of dollars worth of shimano rods and reels, but the quality has seemed to gone down hill recently. Only the high end stuff is made in Japan now, the curado G's are made in malayasia and the Crucial said made in China. I guess I'm just disappointed, maybe the fishability of the rod will change my mind. Enough with the bashing though, I will give the customer service two thumbs up. It's hard to beat their warranty.
  11. The tip broke on my favorite spinning rod a 7'2 MHxf crucial drop shot rod a couple weeks ago, so I sent it back to shimano for a warranty replacement. I got the new rod yesterday and I'm not impressed with it at all. It feels cheap with the new eva grips. It doesnt balance as well with my stradic like the old one did. I haven't fished it yet but for my impression is not good. Anyone else feel this way?
  12. I love my yamaha vmax hpdi so I'll throw my .02 for Yamaha. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices though.
  13. 20# Sufix braid, 3 way swivel 4-6# FC to the fly.
  14. I use a clinch know with hybrid bc its just easier to tie, I'm sure the palomar would be fine though. As for the palomar not being good with FC, I've never had any problems breaking off with it. What other knot is everyone using for FC?

    3' Big Hammer swimbait on a 1/4oz head or a 4' on a 1/2oz head.
  16. I was not a fan either but once you learn to do it right, you will catch a lot of big fish.
  17. I think you might like it for c-rigging too, I also throw big flutter spoons like the lake fork tackle spoon on it in the summer.
  18. I guess it would but I'm not really sure since I've never used megastrike. I will say that fish dope last forever. I've got some on flies that have been that way for 2 years now. It just doesn't go away. Sometimes it is exactly what you need though. I've gone from being skunked to loading the boat just by adding it more than once.
  19. Fish dope is made by Punisher Lures. It's really made for float and flies. It is a scent but it really is used to take the action out of flies. Whether your using the duck feather or hair fly... basically it just stops the movement of the hair for a more suble presentation.
  20. I use a 9'6 BPS micro-lite FNF rod, Shimano symetre 2500, 20# sufix braid main line to a 3 way swivel, Punisher FNF bobber, 6# FC leader. Mostly I just use the Punisher flies, Duck feather/ chartruese or something like that. I also like the cumberland pro flies. You don't need a nice fly rod, sensitivity isn't an issue since your just watching a bobber. The bobber is starting to drop really good here in TN. It's some of my favorite kind of fishing when its hot, when it's not it bores me to death. LOL.
  21. Maybe the Powell is balanced better when the you have the reel on it, than the GLX. My Powell has a CuradoE5 on it right now, I might weigh them to see what the difference is actually, but I think it's the way it balances. I think the "gained weight" comes from the size of the reel seat and reel. Thats what wears me out it just feels buge in my hand, the weight doesn't bother me though.
  22. The rod is made for punchin mats and it is a broomstick. The length and power is needed to haul big fish out of the mat's quickly. I have a comparable Powell rod too and it is much lighter than the GLX. Most of the GLX's weight is in the handle, there's going to be a couple of ounces of cork that the Powell doesn't have since its a full a grip. I does blow the Powell out of the water IMO, but it better for the price. Also, I haven't noticed any grooving on the guides, from the braid, but they are titanium so I'm not sure how that would happen. I will look at it next time though. As far as the reel goes, I've tried a couple different reels (Core 100mg, Chronarch 50mg, Curado 200E7). It is heavy with the Curado on it but I chose it because I have a spare spool and I switch between braid and 20# FC. I use the rod quite a bit ledge fishing, I throw C-rigs, heavy T-rigs, and football jigs on it. It's been a very versatile rod for me, and is a awesome c-rig rod. You can really sling a 1 oz weight on the long rod.
  23. Thats what I use, and also a Dobyns Champion 685cb.
