Thanks for the reply. Most of the spooning I will be doing will be at dale hollow when the smallies suspend over the grass humps. I will definitely bump up the # test on my line. I thought it was a little to light myself. As for the fizzing I know how to do that, but I lost my needle so I will have to buy another one soon.

Anyone got any tips or tricks for this type of fishing? I've had some success fishing with 1/2-3/4 oz spoons and baits like the silver buddy. A lot of the tournaments around here are won fishing this way in the winter months and I'd like to get better. Also what type of setup are you fishing them on. I've been throwing the 1/2 oz baits on a 7 MH crucial/ chronarch 50mg w/ 10 flouro.
  3. It's just starting to be that time of the year for the Rig down south. I'll let you know in a couple months.
  4. I have four crankbait rods. 1 for squarebills, 1 for finesse cranking, 1 for medium depths, and 1 for deep divers. You could say I have 5 if you count my jerkbait rod.
  5. I don't think they are made anymore.
  6. It's just starting to get good here down south. I'll be fishing all winter long too!
  7. Not my biggest or the best looking but all I could find at the moment. 2 good brown fish from Dale Hollow!
  8. Looks like a great day. I really need to get down there, never been. Florence is only about an hour and half from my house.
  9. I throw the SR5 on 6'8 m xf crucial spinning rod with a stradic 2500 6-8# flouro. SR7 I throw on a 6'6 mm crucial cranking rod chronarch 50mg and 10# flouro.
  10. I counted mine this spring I've got 5 boxes with more than 300 different cranks.
  11. I throw them all 1/4 - 1oz
  12. Thanks for all the advice. I had forgotten I even posted this. Sounds like the risk isnt worth the reward so I will skip this idea.
  13. Winter is my favorite time to fish! The only people out there are other fisherman, so its less crowded and you're not getting beat up by jet skis. IMHO its the best time of the year to catch a toad.
  14. A-rig, drop shot, or a fluke on a swarming hornet fishhead spin.
  15. I'm 100% positive I'm not going to do this myself LOL. I think if I removed the foregrip and made it into a split grip it would lighten the rod up a little bit. I am worried that doing that would unbalance the rod though. It's a sweet stick and I don't want to mess it up. I appreciate your insight, it will probably never happen, just something I have thought about doing.
  16. Never used the money minnow, but the Big Hammer swimbaits are an absolute killer for smallies.
  17. I've never had a palomar knot slip with braid.
  18. I just got the Powell A rig rod the other day. It's sweet! Very versatile, I've flipped, frogged and thrown swimbaits on it. It's rated for 1/2-3oz so its plenty strong for what your looking for.
  19. I have a BCFR 954 GLX flippin stick i would like to change to split grip and remove the fore grip. What would I need to do this? Though with such an expensive rod I think it would be best for a professional to do it. How much would it cost for the conversion?
  20. Just got this rod the other day and it is SICK! It's still a little early for the rig but i've been experimenting with other uses for it. It absolutely slings a hollow body frog, and it make a good flippin stick too! Now I'm looking for a new reel for it. Right now i've been working with a Cardiff 200a that hasn't seen action in a few years and a Core 100mg ive been throwing frogs on. It feels good with the cardiff and it would make a great a-rig / small swimbait combo. It's awesome with the core for flippin and froggin. I can't decide what reel to buy or if i should just leave the cardiff on it, and buy a chronarch 50E for another rod. Then again, I've been considering a Chronarch e6 for an all around frog, a rig, flippin rod, or a Curado 300e or Calcutta 300d for a swimbait combo? What do you guys think?
  21. I have them in 10 reels from curado D's, E's, Chronarch 50mg, E's, through Core 100mg's I run them all dry. The noise isn't as bad as others say, the casting disance is noticable thought when running them dry vs oiled in my opinion. When I did oil them I used the shimano oil that comes with their reels.
  22. I think its only in the spring when the season is kicking off. They always have stuff on sale though. I usually go there once a week just to see if they have anything I need.
  23. +1 and it can double a flippin stick, I use it for throwing 3/4-1oz football jigs too! Great Rod!
