  1. I use a BCFR 954 GLX / Curado 200e7 65# sufix for punching. For flipping I use a Dobyns Champion 705 / Chronarch 200e7 and 20# Sunline FC.
  2. +1 he services all my reels, he knows what he is talking about!

I saw that too. I was looking forward to these coming out, but now I'm thinking I might need a whole new set up for it. You guys think it will be ok to fish it on a 7'11 cumara rated up to 1 oz?
  4. The HDS 5x is sonar only. It does not have GPS capabilities. It is structure scan and downscan capable with an LSS box as far as I know. I have 2 HDS 5's and I love them. Honestly I dont think you could go wrong with either brand though.
  5. You did better than us Joe. I lost an under saturday and the other under we brought in was DQ'd because it was 1/16 to long. Sunday we couldn't get anything going either. It is always fun to get together with that group guys regardless of the fishing though.
  6. I fished the smalljaw.com tx the next weekend, it was tough. No one brought in an over all weekend. Big fish was a 2# under. I caught most of my fish on that hunk of metal too, but we did catch a few on the swimbait. Congrats on the over, they are hard to come by right now. We need some cold weather down here bad.
  7. put the one not in use in standby and you wont have any problems.
  8. Dobyns 685cb is what im using. I love it.
  9. Do you flip the bail over manually or just turn the handle? If you turn the handle, try closing it manually and I bet it fixes your problem. It could also be the way you filled the reel off the spool.

Yeah the ducer stayed put just the unit. I made sure they were both set to the correct ducer type. I guess I will have to call them.

I'm having a problem with my gen 2 losing depth when running on plane or any speed other than idle. I have a Gen 1 also, both units are set up the same that never loses depth except in rough water (aluminum boat). I've had the gen 2 at the console and bow, it's not as bad on the bow but it does go out randomly. The Gen 1 is fine. I can't figure out what is wrong, i've installed all the updates, I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the unit. Any ideas?
  12. You should also try the 3" big hammer swimbaits with a 1/4oz head. Great winter swimbait.

Cool I will look at that one too. I'm reading Fishing With Confidence by John Mark Warren again. It's pretty good read and covers the basics but I'm looking for something more in depth.
  15. +1 Smalljaw.com is a big help
  16. Good luck. I fish Dale Hollow regularly and I fished it yesterday... tough is an understatement! It has a huge learning curve and once you think you have things figured out, he throws a day like yesterday at you. LOL. Even the bad days will make you want to come back though.

    Thanks.
  18. A few weeks ago there was a thread and someone responded with a pic from a book and it looked like it may be a good read. I think the authors name was Murphy can anyone point in the right direction?
  19. Braid with FC leader or straight FC will be the best. 12# mono on a spinning reel is overkill, go with 6-8# FC.
  20. What he said! I have 2 HDS 5's Gen 2 with structure scan. I would love to have the big screen but just can't afford them. Buy the best you can afford.

Thanks, I think it will help a lot. Dale Hollow and Table Rock probably fish really similar.
  22. Go with the 24v 70# it was one of the best investments I've ever made for my boat.

Thanks for the tips and those articles!

Most of time 35' is the deepest I need to fish. In the fall/winter 30' is about as deep as I need to fish, depending on the conditions.
