  1. Just like mine before I redone it as mention above. Filling with jug was faster than using the pump for me at least. I hated to detach and reattach the hose to fill it up Here is another one from An Ohio Fishing Board Board This is a good set-up . The pump can be used to pump the water in or out . Then you hook it to the spray bar and it will add oxygen to the water. Youtube Video from maker! 1.10 min long
  2. http://hubpages.com/hub/Build-an-easy-portable-livewell I had one that I was filling with a jug and then using a bilge pump to recirculate the water that has been working for years. I found this site and have since modified mine to use the pole method to both bring water into the cooler and to add fresh water Too. Oh, BTW I Live in Texas too. Houston. So don't fret too much about the temps. Just change your water out often and your catch will be OK! Copied from site above! Not My Ideal Here's what you need. 1. A container. How big it is depends on what you are going to use it for. I use a 32 qt. cooler because it fits on my kayak. But a power boat has a lot more room. 2. Power. Check out my page on rechargeable AA battery packs. I use 6 AA batteries. Or, do your own thing. 3. A bilge pump. I've got some recommended at the bottom. 4. Hose. ¾" marine hose is best, but ¾" sprinkler pipe works for smaller applications. You'll need enough to put the pump in that water and to let the drain go back into the water. 5. 90 degree aerator nozzle ¾". (my selection is on the bottom) 6. 90 degree PVC elbow (for drainage). I find sprinkler fittings to work great for this. 7. 8" zip ties. These are to hold your live-well to the deck and prevent it from sliding around 8. Some bungee cords. 9. Drill and a 7/8" hole saw. 10. Marine or Plumbing Goop (glue). 11. Zip ties. 12. (Optional) Dremel tool and cutting wheels. If you don't have one, get one. I don't know what I like better, my Dremel or my safety-wire pliers. Building 1. Drill a hole with the hole saw one side of the container where you want the water to come in. 2. Drill a drain hole ½" below and opposite the first hole. 3. Glue your aerator into the first hole 4. Glue PVC elbow for drainage into the second hole 5. Let glue set. 6. Attach your bilge pump to the hose at the length you need it. Wind the wires up and zip tie. Leave enough wire to connect to power supply. 7. When the glue is set, attach your drain hose. Mine goes right into the scuppers of my kayak. Plus I have an extra drain (elbow with no hose) for large swells. 8. Attach the hose with the pump to the aerator. 9. Modify as needed for your specific vessel. I put some zip-tie loops on mine for more securing options.
  3. Just about any decent marine parts house should have that part in stock!
  4. Only happen to me a couple of times, And I always tell them as my grandfather told them. "I shoot better than I swim, or talk" Pick you your poison, or get to stepping.
  5. Do the fish really care what you throw the lure with, or how fast and smooth you can bring them to the boat/bank. I seriously doubt it! For me, no loyalty to any piece of fishing equipment as long as it gets the job done. And I have own the gambit of the stuff and from what I have seen, read, and used it more about the skill of the fisherman than it is about the name brand of the equipment. I have always felt it all about bragging rights and less of getting fish in the boat. But that's just my two cents. BTW My personal best fish catch ever, not in weight but in pure enjoyment of the ordeal of fighting the fish, a 16.5 lb flounder on Zebco 404 with 4lb test line in 1975. I believe if i would have had a better rod/reel combo I would have forgotten about this many years ago
  6. Model number that you are looking at? Might get you more replies
  7. Mount it on your transom or on the trolling motor. Don't try to shoot through aluminum boat's hull
  8. Fun looking project. two questions for you. What motor is that on the transom and what type of steering control (DIY) are you using.
  9. Made from scrap stuff I found and the Handle bar receiver of a kids bike i got from Goodwill
  10. Here is a the way that I load my 17 foot aluminum canoe by my self. I call this "Thingie" that I made, The Rotator" I have used it for both Jon Boats and canoes. It is mounted on the trailer hitch of the Tarus and it is very simple to used. I simply place one end of the canoe on the cross supports and pick up the other end and walk around the car, and set the canoe/boat on top of the car. I had made a taller version of this design for used on the top of a 1991 GMC Suburband also Changed/modified for smaller photo
  11. From Looking at the Brochures, If i was near Raleigh, I would gladly take it off your hands!! I have a 1960's Evinrude Big Twin 40HP that would look real cool pushing that boat around Lake Conroe. Wouldn't be a speed demon but it would be a cool ride!
  12. Marine grade sealant Nut, bolt, and two washer. Nut and washer on one side, bolt and washer through bilge hole filled with the sealant. Tighten snug. after sealant dries reply some to the nut and the bolt from both sides of the repair. Should hold for quiet some time.
  13. CGH posted a topic in Fishing Reports
ATHENS, Texas - Teenager Kyle Nitschke of Willis caught Budweiser ShareLunker No. 456 from Lake Conroe December 13. The 13.07-pound largemouth bass should qualify as the new junior angler state record by 0.01 pound. Ironically, Nitschke was fishing in the Ignition Bass Tournament with his friend Tyler Goetzman, who caught the former record from Lake Conroe on January 13, 2008. We had a limit by 8:40 and started culling, Nitschke said. We caught 14 keepers. She [the ShareLunker] hit a crankbait in six feet of water about 12:30. The fish was 21.5 inches in girth and 25 inches in length. Nitschke and Goetzman won the tournament with a bag of 32.85 pounds of fish. Lake Conroe has now produced 13 Budweiser ShareLunkers and ranks number four in the number produced, after Lakes Fork, Rayburn and Alan Henry. For the past several years Lake Conroe has been the site of intensive management of invasive aquatic vegetation by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department using triploid grass carp and chemicals. Local anglers, homeowners and recreational users have cooperated in developing an action plan that is reestablishing native vegetation in the lake. The Budweiser ShareLunker program is made possible through support from Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Since 1991, Anheuser-Busch, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, has contributed millions of dollars in funding to support conservation causes and fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation programs in Texas.
  14. Upload a picture and maybe someone will be able to figure out the model number and then you may be able to find a review of it somewhere on the net.
  15. On a 200$ budget I suggest you rethink your thoughs of only setteling for a new boat and trolling motor I would starting looking in front and back yards and on the side of people's houses (From the street of course) and see if you can find you a Jon boat that you can fish out till you can restore/build it as you see fit. Also Craiglist has been good for boats. But keep your eyes open and you will find what you seek, or at least find something that you can enjoy as you fish. Remember, the fish can't tell if you are fishing out of a showroom ready $80,000 water rocket or a $150.00 fixer upper from some old guys back yard.
  16. Eagle Cuda 250 S/Map Fishfinder Was at Academy today and this unit was on close-out for $149.00 I plan on putting it in the Jon boat that I hope to be able to redue some time this winter. Anyone have any hits or miss, good/bad experiences with this unit?
  17. 30 Years is a lone time on a glass boat. But if you can take it for the test ride and have it check out by a GOOD Mechanic (very close look at that lower unit) and it gets the OK.... it's only $2K. Offer $1,500 and see if they will jump on it. For comparison here is an add for a 77 17' for 1500 http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1977-HYDRA-SPORTS-17-Bass-Boat-92459671
  18. Surfer!! Not my Boat. I got rid of that HOME BUILT TANK a long time ago the first time some one made an offer on it. The boat in this picture was done by a guy name Corey Grimstead's. I think it's a 1432 by the way (Sized by other objects in the pictures) I don't know how stable his build was on the water, but the first 1432 that I had did, was very stable just didn't have much on the Free Board side (http://www.bassjons.com/mycustompage0025.htm) I have since finding his few posted pictured, alone with others, done mods on 4 boats so far. I have a 1436 Durcraft that I hope I'll be able to do a mod on this winter if I Can find a place to work from. Apartment complex living is the worst. Boats are stored 42 miles away at a storage unit.
  19. Hum.... Never gave any thinking to build one out of fiberglass my self. I did make one out of some very thin sheet metal that was ok to fish from but it took a lot of outboard to push
  20. Not sure that you can. The best way is just to cast a line in the area of the school fish and see what takes your bait when you hall it to the surface
  21. 17' Grumman aluminum canoe I have a 17 Foot Conoe that I'm tring to ID the year of. The Model is R17 It has a 6 digit Serial Numer (all numbers) Any one here know of a good site to possible ID a conoe Just got message back from Salesman It's not a Grumman Canoe Nov 7, 2008
  22. Hello All, It been a while since I logged on the board hope all are doing well. Just pick one of these up off of a forsale board. It was removed from a boat and all worked fine. It has three wires comming out of it but I have no Ideal on how to conncet it to two batteries so that it may be operated in either the 12 or the 24 volt manner It has 1 black wire, One red or orange wire and one white wire. A manual would be nice
  23. Yamaha 350 HP Monster Motor The world's first 350 horsepower outboard motor, a 5.3L four-stroke V-8. Yamaha Marine has introduced the most potent, production outboard motor ever, the F350, a 5.3L, 350 horsepower V-8 Slap on two or three of these and burn gas for all it worth...
  24. She well be a guess tonight on the letterman Show!
