Do Expensive Polarized Glasses Make a Difference?
This is the best explination I have seen. x2 Glass lenses are more scratch resistant and usually more optically perfect. Lanyards may not look cool but they work and nobody looks cool when their glasses go in the drink. My Costa Del Mars 580 Wave are the best I have tried. But my Ray Bans work just fine too. PS. Anytime you see someone wearing Costa Del Mars it is a safe assumption that they fish.

Coming to Orlando
The Turkey lake boat rental is well worth the money. It is an electric only lake and not heavily fished because of that. It is bigger than I can cover in two rentals. Make your reservations at least a month in advance. The boats rent out fast.

optima batteries
I am glad you picked up on that. It is more testament to your knowledge and helpfulness. It will reduce the life of your battery if you let it sit without a full charge. To maintain a healthy battery: 1. Always keep your battery charged. 2. Never run it al the way to dead. 3. Add distilled water when needed. (wet cell obviously)

Take a dead bass and put it on an ant bed. They will pick it clean in a week or less.

Fixing Leaky rivets
2 Hammers Technique - AKA tightening the rivets Take a sledgehammer or other heavy hard object and hold it against one side of the leaky rivet. Take a regular hammer and hit the other side of the rivet a couple of times. This flattens and expands the rivet to fill the rivet hole. Don't try and turn it into a pancake, just flatten it a little. Much quicker and easier than glue/epoxy stuff and almost as permanent as when the boat was new. If there is already a glue / epoxy in the way, the hammers don't care. Epoxy will shatter and glue will smush.

Knot Strength Evaluation
Watching those videos takes to long. Condensed results after testing the first 6 knots has the Palomar beating the others with the Eye Crosser coming in a very close 2nd the Uni a close 3rd. All knots were considered good to use except the figure 8. For braided line only the Palomar is recommended as all others slipped. Seems like a good thorough test. TESTED Figure 8 Knot Improved Clinch Knot Jansik Special Eye Crosser Knot (sane as uni, but twice through the eyelet) Duncan Loop (Uni Knot) Palomar STILL TO TEST Trilene Knot World's Fair Knot

Acadia Rods
I bought the 2 for 1 P series. 7'6" and 7". They are good stiff rods. The 7ft is MH the stiffness compares to my MH 7ft Loomis IMX. It's about twice the weight though. The guides are huge in comparison. This could be a source of some of that weight. I am not the best judge of sensitivity but I can say it dose not compare in sensitivity to a crucial, but is a lot better than my ugly stick. For the price of $35 on my door step I think its good, but you have to buy 2 of them. I am keeping the 7'6" for swim baits. If any experienced hands want to give the 7'ft a thorough review I will pass it along for $20 shipping only. When you're done with the review, if you don't want it, pass it along to someone who needs it.

Boat isn't running as fast as usual....
Check the spark plugs for a fouled plug. Always start with the cheapest easiest fix them move on to the next cheapest easiest.

Avid and Keithscatch youtube Stick Marsh video
FWC, police, etc. aren't lawyers and haven't studied law to any great extent. They are normal people. I wouldn't give them a hard time though. They are in a position to ruin your day if they want to.

Question
Adjust the carb? I don't think you do that unless it needs it. And run a fuel additive carb cleaner through it before you adjust it. Its cheap and sometimes it works. <---not a mechanich

Jon boat styrofoam necessary?
Not often, but it's better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Are there reels designed for braid?
Gracias amigo.

fireline crystal..
The clear part is a misnomer. Translucent white at best. If you think line visibility is important and use a leader with your braid then you will probably still want to use a leader with this line. Crystal is not as smooth as Suffix Braid. No other problems with it.

Best quickest knot(s)?
If you need to study up on some of these knots this page is good at explaining them. http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php I am faster at the uni knot, but thats just due to practice.

Are there reels designed for braid?
Thanks SmallFry. I would not have thought of that. It sounds like you have experience and have thought about this variety of equipment. Your comment about "the oscillation being even, well centered, and not too short for the spool" sizes up a prior puzzle I had. I have one ultra light reel that oscillates off center. Never thought much about it till now. Are the three critical characteristics of oscillation pretty well taken care of in most reels or is it something you take the time to look for when purchasing? If so, how can you see it without spooling up line?

Looking for a Florida Lake Near Cocoa
I am surprised no one has answered yet. That's not my side of Florida, but I can recommend a few things to check into. Lake Poinsett. From Cocoa Beach you can head 15 miles inland on 520 to a river crossing with a fish camp and ramp. 1 mile south on that river is lake poinsett. Disclaimer, I know nothing about this place. I have only looked on Google earth and found it interesting. Lake Washington 15 miles south on 95. Exit Eau Galley and backtrack north 2 miles then west 2 miles. Again I haven't fished it, but it looks real nice. Stick Marsh Farm 13 Another 25 miles south on 95 exit Fellsmere. West 3 miles. Stop in at the bait and tackle and ask questions and buy something. If you haven't heard of this place yet, do a Google search? This is a dream spot for many people. Do not run on plane until you have talked to some locals about it. The name stick marsh is very fitting and there are tree stumps underwater everywhere. Some one more knowledgeable may be by soon to tell you more. :

Sudden-expertism
I think the point is to keep the information on this great forum accurate and of the best caliber. I can commend that. But in the same breath. There are 12,000 members. If only the most experienced answer questions then you guys are gona be really busy. Are you sure you don't want some of us novices fielding a few when we can. I enjoy sharing what knowledge I can as much as you do. (rehtorical, just sharing 2 view points) And for god's sake if I lead someone astray please correct me. PS this thread has gotten me to the 500 posts level. That's right, Senior Member. Now everyone must believe what I say. ;D

Are there reels designed for braid?
So the main difference between a standard reel and a reel designed for braid is the laying of the line. It is laid in a more exaggerated cross or X across itself to prevent spool dig in. From what I understand the line laid in this crossed fashion should take up more room than when more traditionally laid. Braid is also les comprisable than mono therefore takes up slightly more room than its mono diameter equivalent. Between these two things a reduction in spool size is not warranted? That was more of a mouthful than I intended. I think I am going to have to measure and see how much 10 lb braid I am putting on my regular spools. If it is excessive then I will have to look into the differences between downsizing, the Daiwa Revros, and the Shimano Biomaster. How dose that Revros compare to the Tierra?

Sudden-expertism
I had to go check how many posts I make. That sounds like me. I do my best to follow Alpsters rules and only post on what I have first hand knowledge of. If it is not first hand knowledge I try to make that clear in my post. As for how often I post... I am excited to be here. P.S. PM me if its me.

Registration Req'd?
Same in Florida. But we have so many lakes that aren't patrolled that many people don't register if they only use on smaller unpatrolled lakes.

Are there reels designed for braid?
Sorry gang. I was talking about spinning. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to include casting since some of the same considerations could be made. What makes the TDX designed for braid? Its specs say 140/12. These are mono measurements. In 12 lb braid it would hold 200yrds. That's excessive and extra weight. Same thing with the Stella; 16 LB/170 YDS. I am glad to hear some reels are listing diameter/ yards on spools now, but Bass Pro only listed the Stella's lb/yrd

Are there reels designed for braid?
Since braided line is so different than mono are there reels made for it. The first consideration that comes to my mind is can the spool be made smaller. I use 10-lb braid for fishing open water and the reels typically hold too much of the stuff unless you use a backer. But an oversized spool filled with backer just adds weight. Would it be good to down size the reel? For example the Shimano Stradic 1000FI specs say it holds 4/140 (equivalent 10lb-braid diameter) a max drag of 7.0lb and a weight of 7.4 ounces. That's a saving of 2 ounces and some money. Am I missing something here or is anyone else doing this already?

Wooden Jon Boat
LBH is right. It will have serious stability isues. But at 2 x 4 ft it probably won't take long to build. Wear a life vest at all times and don't take any exspensive gear with you.
