  1. I have finally gotten around to using superglue on soft plastics as it has been recommended so many times here on the forum. Now that I have used it I have found dozens of more places I wan to use it. Such as wear the eye of the hook is just inside the head of the worm to prevent the worm from tearing and sliding down. So is there a preferred dispenser for super glue that can stay in the tackle box without any problems?
  2. I think those are related. I find Ah an easier concept though. Battery maintenance is more important than brand name. I am still using Auto Zone (deep cycle marine of course). 1 year and 4 months and still going. My boat is 14.5ft fiberglass with 45lb. If I had to do 8 hours once a month I would have two batteries. Sorry I can't remember the amp hours. It's an 80$ auto zone.
  3. 55lb thrust, 12 ft jon, $80 auto zone deep cycle, ship to shore automatic charger, 2 days run time no problem. Your inflatable will catch a little more wind than the average jon. On windy days you will be on the trolling motor constantly. This wont make a big difference on battery consumption compared to a jon, but it will make steering and control tougher than a jon. I recommend the trolling motor on the front and some sort of stationary rudder on the back. I use an oar locked in place.
  4. Great info. Thanks for the descriptions and specific bait knowledge. Can I ask you to add one more recommendation to the Florida baits? I have a favorite spot that is a 9 to 12 ft deep eel grass flat with 15 ft visibility. Do you have a recommended bait for that depth.
  5. well that sucks. PS electric motors only when i was there late last season.
  6. I am with Roger on this one. If it takes me more than 30 seconds to get the hook out then I cut the hook in to as many pieces as it takes with long diagonal cutters from auto zone. I have had two occasions with treble hooks where I certainly would have killed the fish without this tool.
  7. x2 I really like this lake. Electric only. Not very pressured due to the limited number of rental boat. 6 am till noon only.
  8. I am not fond of buying a motor that doesn't run. To much gamble. While you may think it only needs a head gasket you aren't able to test any of the other components due to the head gasket. It could have striped gears, dirty points, fouled plugs, etc. Now that I think about it, isn't a blown head gasket a symptom of overheating? Add water pump to that list.
  9. I don't want to see you bringing them to my lake or there might be two illegal activities going on.
  10. I do not believe braid with leader will be stronger unless you use a heavier leader than the 17lb XT. The line to line knot is my weakest point. I think this is due to braids thin diameter allowing it to cut into the mono /floro. If you went with straight 50 lb braid it would be much stronger than the 17lb XT. If you put a 17 lb XT leader on the 50lb braid it would be a little weaker than straight 17lb XT. Unfortunately there haven't been a lot of test done on line to line knots and leader knot strengths. This is just my observation from fishing braid with leader.
  11. Tight work. You and your bud really paid attention to detail. I may have to copy you. Thanks for posting.
  12. I might be showing my age, but we didn't have ice in 1935.
  13. Flat bottom is faster than V hull, but much rougher ride. As a kid I had an 8hp on a 12 ft john and we used to ski behind it. Of coarse that was only two 70 lb kids and one 70 lb skier. I am pretty sure the 9.9 would get you on plane. Sorry that is the only comparison I can offer. Try the 9.9. If it isn't ideal keep looking for a 15 while you use the 9.9. Then sell the 9.9. PS there are no dumb questions.
  14. That just made my Monday morning. I was drooling over that behemoth bass for 10 seconds before I noticed the punch line.
  15. Good to hear GobbleDog. I was here at work and could feel it in the air that it was time to go fishing . I Know a couple of things about Conway (literally 2 ;D), but would like to know more if you want to share sometime. I live just 5 minutes north of the Fern Creek ramp
  16. http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm#Lifespan%20of%20Batteries This is a lot longer read than the prior one I posted. But if you scroll down to Cycles vs. Life a little more than half way down the page it shows 1000 cycles for any lead acid that is well maintained. At one cycle (discharge and charge) per day that is almost 3 years. Now I don't think it is possible to perfectly maintain and not abuse a battery so I would expect much less. But I also assume you don't fish every day. I have a battery that is just over a year old now. I have done what I can to maintain it, but I do abuse it some times. I can tell it's not as strong as when I bought it, but it was a generic $80 deep cycle and it still trolls for an 8 hour day.
  17. If you are only getting one year out of your battery than you need to read this. It will save you some money. Maintenance is more important than brand name. http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery.html
  18. No. The span between the two remaining seats would be farther than the original two seater. It would be weaker. I don't know by how much and it may not be enough to cause failure, but proceed with caution.
  19. I fish a 500 acre lake. Its .9 miles across and fairly round. In a 10 ft john with a 40 lb thrust it takes me about 15 minute to cross the lake. Depending on the shape of your lake 20 minutes could get you anywhere you need to be. I would try it with just the trolling motor before putting time/ money into attaching the 10 HP. It just depends how important that 20 minutes is to you. just fish it.
  20. I very well could be off on that. I just remember that 5mph is difficult to achieve. Aluminum hulls are faster only because they weigh less.
  21. I call it the Taco Effect. Picture standing in the middle of the boat and both sidewalls flex out ward since there is no bench to hold them in place. At the same time the bow and stern would raise up. If you ad the stress of a motor and the boat on plane to the equation it can destroy the boat. Another concern is there is flotation inside the benches. If you remove it all and get into a bad situation the boat will go down. All that being said I removed my benches by grinding the heads off of the rivets then lifting the seat over the remaining stub, and then retightened the rivets with two hammers. Place one hammer against one side of the rivet and smack the other side a couple of times. Don't try to turn it into a pancake, just flatten it a little. I stiffened the floor with a sheet of plywood to prevent the Taco effect and I don't use gas motor.
  22. Just to make sure I understand the obvious. This is not for road travel, but just for backing down the ramp by hand? I would take the castle craft one and ad an extension to that short handle so it reaches out past the front of the boat. Position the wheels slightly to the back of the balancing point with the boat on it. This would keep a little weight on the extended handle. With one hand on the front of the boat and the other on the handle you should be able to control the boat well without having to strap it to the dolly. Push it down the ramp, float it off the dolly, and pull the dolly out of the water.
  23. I would guess 2.5mph as 5mph is a tough speed for electric only john boats to achieve when rigged with a 101 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1204247201/7#7
  24. Are they going to let you on the lake with a 200hp if you promise not to start it? I got $20 that the 101 lb thrust is nowhere near 10 hp. 10 hp is much, much, much stronger. Unfortunately there is no direct conversion between the two as HP is speed dependent, but I would say for this scenario the 101 is producing roughly 0.2HP give or take 0.5HP http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/propulsion/q0195.shtml If both motors take the same gas / oil mix then put a Y in the existing fuel line and have it feed both motors.
  25. Super Glue the plastic around each eyelet or hook opening on Mattlures. It helps reduce tears and promotes longevity of the bait. But it's listed to do this right on his site. So why not do it at the factory? No offence intended Matt and thanks for the new PB
