  1. I am with Tokyo Tony on this one. I can tie that knot in the dark and its among the strongest. My leader breaks off also like yours, but with the drag set to 1/2 or less of the rated line strength it is never an issue when a fish is on.
  2. I found a 997c used for $1200. The guy was buying the newest model and selling his 997 that was a year old. Check around on lots of different forums and you might find one.
  3. I am not familiar with current, but since it will be running constant I would think 3 hours. Don't run your battery all the way down or it will shorten the life of the battery. Use about 50% to 70% of the battery. For longer performance just parallel two batteries.
  4. Welcome. Sounds like you are outfitting a rig for an electric only lake. What is a 36 volt golf cart electric outboard? Golf carts don't have outboards.
  5. I can't say for sure, but yes put the transducer deeper. The air mixed in the choppy water could be an issue. Putting it deeper is a cheap option to try and I hope that will fix it for you. If that doesn't fix it then at least you have peace of mind that that wasn't the problem and can move on to the next possible fix. I have my 997c transducer of the side of my canoe. About 6 inches in the water so I can see under the canoe to the other side. 3mph on gps. Was out on choppy days only so far and no problems. Same performance in the calm coves.
  6. How far would it rev up? 2000 RPM not to big a deal to let it run some provided coolant needs are met. 5000 RPM and up, you are wise to quickly shut it down.
  7. I am right there with you. I am more comfortable on the back deck or floor of my boat. It rocks less. I have always envisioned driving the trolling motor from these positions. But I haven't done anything about it yet so I can't vote or offer any helpful advice. Let me know if it works out though. For those of you with digital trolling motors do you drive from different positions in your boat, other than the bow? If so would you consider going back to cable steer or do you enjoy being able to drive from the different positions?
  8. Get the $20 ones. If you have never tried polarized before then you will be amazed. They will help you see what is down there. Over time you can start to memorize what's under water on your favorite lakes and fish it from a distance without spooking the fish. If you like them enough then save up and get some $60, $100, or even $180 glasses. You do get what you pay for, but $20 glasses are better than none.
  9. I bought a 4 blade spinner bait as a gag just so I could look funny to my friends. Surprised I when I out fished my buds the two times I have used it. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51782?cmCat=CROSSSELL&cmid=PP_P2_2
  10. Now i am curious if late morning and late evening are in the lead only because that's when we are in the mood to fish and therefore fishing more during those hours.
  11. I sold my 14 ft McKee Craft with 60 hp Johnson and bought a $200 aluminum canoe and put a $1200 used 997c and a trolling motor on it. I don't have the same range I had, but I have a better idea where to fish now. Of coarse this also fits with my preference of small lakes that don't have public ramps.
  12. craigslist.com lots of boats are being listed nowa days. look for one in your area.
  13. If you called them and told them you were going to be transporting a mess of bass from one lake to another and they said they didn't care than I guess its OK. If you called them and asked them to do something about the dying bass and they said they didn't care then we are still talking about two different things. Good luck with your venture either way. The shock and net method reminds me of shrimping on the intercostal, only without the shock. Should be fun.
  14. More than one way to skin that cat. Nut, bolt and washers on each side all doused in silicone caulk will do it. Other people will do it other ways.
  15. The single light gauge bracket will not hold that block of wood and trolling motor firmly. Move the 2x4 back so it is flush with the front of the boat. Add 2 of the front straps that Wayne mentioned. One on each end of the 2x4. Then use 2 of those brackets in the back. One on each end of the 2x4. Drill 2 new holes in each of the brackets closer to the 90* corner on the boat side of the bracket. Put screw in those holes. Take a hamer and bend the exess bracket that hangs into your boat down to meat the aluminum. That should get you through 2 or 5 years.
  16. Thanks sneaker. i went back and reread some of your older posts on this topic. It appears I have a theoretical hull speed of 5.96 mph. So I have some work to do. I se no reason to go only 3 to 4 when 5.5 should be fairly easy if I find the right set up. I have ordered a 55lb and will try it first since it should have a bigger prop. Then on to some more pitched props.
  17. Has anyone experimented with different props for better speed or efficiency? I ask because I have a canoe for getting onto lakes without ramps. Some of them are still pretty big. I think most trolling motor props are designed for heavier bass boats. With a light weight canoe are there any benefits to changing props? 15ft Canoe with 2 men, batteries, gear is only 650 lbs. Currently using Endura 30# and getting 3 to 4 mph depending on tail wind.
  18. Not as efficient as forward. Your battery won't get you as far when in reverse due to prop design. You can probably turn the control head around on the shaft with one bolt depending on your model of trolling motor. Then the handle and motor face the same direction. This is how to turn a transom mount into a bow mount without the fancy deck mount plates.
  19. Transporting fish from one lake to another is how non native species show up in other lakes. It is illegal where I am from. Don't do it unless the authorities are involved. Fish fry doesn't sound like a bad ideal.
  20. I have clamped my trolling motor directly to the side of my canoe. as long as i dont raise it high enough that the prop hits the botom of the boat it is fine.
  21. Spining gear works for me. These big lures are wearing me out though. I need a lighter rod.
  22. +1 I am very pleased with my crucial too.
  23. Do bass really eat lizards?
  24. I have been using their 7'6" as my swim bait rod because I am to cheap to buy a real swim bait rod. I like it just fine for the money. I think a Berkley Lightning Rod is better for the money. To bad they don't make a stout 7'6" Lightning Rod The action of the 7"6 and 7' that I have is MH/F. I sold the 7ft at a garage sale because I have much better rods that I use.
