  1. witout putting to much thought into it, a reel designed for fishing great white shark may be up to the task. Maybe a Pen Senator in one of its larger sizes under $100. oops. Just noticed the SPINNING in the title.
  2. I have been there once. I still have nightmares about all the stumps. Good for bass, bad for boats.
  3. Saturday on Lake Conway. Absolutely beautiful, but post frontal slowness. My hangover prevented me from thinking outside of the box and i got stuck in a rut. One fish on a worm. Most people I talked to caught about 5 for a half day. Nothing big reported. Lots of beds. One healthy sunburn.
  4. x2 A second battery would be cheaper than a second battery and a new trolling motor. Unless you just want to go faster.
  5. dsaaverdra, If your jon is leaking through the rivets try the two hammers technique to tighten the rivets back up. It worked for me. Take a sledge hammer or heavy solid weight and place it against one side of the rivet. Take a regular nail hammer and smack the rivet a few good times. The rivet will flatten and expand filing the hole again. No more leak. Ps what does your name mean?
  6. I prefer alligator clips for quicker diconect. http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=alligator.clip
  7. Direct, to the point, and oh so true.
  8. I personally would save the money and go for the merc. From what I know they are both trustworthy brands. I have a 25 yr. old Johnson. It runs great and starts very easy.
  9. Chum works. Maybe not all the time. I have seen people who chum routinely at their docks and have created a feisty colony of fish. I have chummed for shiners and seen bass attack those fish. So it can draw in bass. According to Glen Lau in Bigmouth Forever "there are two types of bass loners who ambush and schoolers who prowl in packs. You can tell them apart by their body shape." I have noticed Schooler = longer, skinnier and longer duration of fight Loners = fatter with better burst energy but less duration of fight
  10. If at random times you set the hook... and your not even fishing. Threw my computer mouse across the room once.
  11. You are loocking directly below the transducer. On the right edge of your screen is what is below the transducer at that moment. Everything you see scrolling to the left is historical, but dose help you understand what's down there. more in-depth tutorial http://www.fishfinder-store.com/howfifiwo.html
  12. I used it to knit a ski mask and clothes. It's better than camouflage. there I am --->
  13. It might seem confusing, but that information is actually useful in helping us add line to the reel. For example you can put a lot more line of 20# braid on a reel than 20# mono, but how much more?? By also listing what its mono equivalent diameter is, we the anglers have more information to better approximate the amount of line we can out on our reels. Reels should list yrds/ diamiter.
  14. The system could be cleaned up and less confusing if they only listed LB and diameter. Do we really need to know what the diameter equivalent in mono is? It just a common curiosity of many people that the advertisers picked up on and started using. It is confusing.
  15. that sounds like BS to me too. its a LIfe Time Warrenty. http://www.costadelmar.com/aidStation/careRepair.cfm
  16. I am not a big fan and I gave it a bad review a week ago. But I am still using it and catching fish. :-/ I think it is less visable than regular braid, but far from clear.
  17. Maui Jims are the only other one you listed that can compete when it comes to lenses quality. And I think ray ban is next in line. Mirrored lenses just reduce the light passing to your eye more then standard tint. It further darkens what you see. I don't find them necessary for fresh water. If i was on the ocean for 8 hours at a time then yes I would probably get the mirrored lenses. Although there are color charts for which colored lens is best for witch situation I prefer the standard grey. It distorts the colors of what you see the least. http://www.costadelmar.com/ourJourney/technology.cfm Glass lenses are more scratch resistant than plastic. Unless you have the habit of stepping on glasses you will always scratch them long before you break them. I have the Fathom Sunglasses black frame with grey glass wave 580 lenses. Best glasses I have ever owned. Just not the most stylish. Very comfortable. Slightly heavier then plastic lenses.
  18. Look for new streams and old streams that dump water into the lake. As long as they are flowing predator fish will be looking for bugs and critters to wash in. Big predators will be looking to ambush small predators.

x2 10# braid and rod tip at the water = hiting weed tops at 9 ft. not sure how deep it can actualy go, but i would guess 11 ft with the rod tip down.
  20. x2 oops that didn't work. Swimbait- Matt's Bluegill
  21. I always thought this way too, but didn't want to say anything because so many people say it does prevent twists. Its nice to know I am not alone and can come out of the closet now. But it is nice to learn where these darn loops over the drag knob come from. >

I like the $10 generic ones just fine. The biggest problem i have is it is impossible to switch the red on and off without cycling through the brights also. Anybody know of a red only headlamp on the cheap?
  23. Nice. A canoe is where I started too. I recommend a small trolling motor. It will push the canoe as fast as you can row and it will go for hours. You can cover a lot more water with it. For example you can cover up to about a 1 mile round lake in a canoe with a trolling motor.
