  1. A 12 ft canoe is not stable. Your fianc ée would ride with you only once. If y'all didn't tip then I am sure you would have some unstable scary moments unless you both have great balance. Get a jon with a trailer if you can.
  2. I agree. 4 hours sounds short for low speed. Do like Ann Marie said and compares the newer battery to the new battery. And check battery charge before buying it. If it is somewhat discharged while in the store then it may be damaged.
  3. I have a chance to pick up a G. Loomis smr882s at a good price. But I have a few questions about the rod. I can't figure out what it's made of. IMX, GL3, etc. ? Since it is designed for small mouth would I still be able to appreciate it fishing for large mouth. And what techniques would it be tailored to. Thanks in advance.
  4. I live in central Florida and fish some low presure lakes. But I intend to kep them that way. :-X ;D
  5. I dont think it is legal to use gold fish. non native species. :
  6. I disagree a little bit. I have a cheap $100 endura 36# thrust. According to the above explanation it should run the same amount of time on speed 1 as on speed 5. I don't find that to be the case on the water. But sneaker has amp meters in line and has done more research than me. Now I could be wrong as I have never taken apart a motor head, but when investigating the wires coming out of the switches on speed 5 the most number of wires were activated. While on speed 1 the least. Now using different size magnets and in the motor and turning them on and off in different groups according to speed selection one could achieve a fair efficiency at all speeds. I believe there were 3 switched wires going to the motor head. 3 magnets of different sizes could achieve 5 speeds. Differences aside and in effort to answer the original question. Unless you want to get fancy a jon boat is light and even with 500lbs of person and gear you should get about 2 to 3 MPH with a small 12V trolling motor. That will get you a mile in about 20 minutes. I tried a 55 endura and I didn't see that much top end difference over the 36. Modified for clarification. 3.5 mph vs 4 mph GPS in a canoe.
  7. I dont think you can make a bad choice out of those 3.
  8. Yes. Lake is up 8 inches. The bass still don't like me there though. Too many fisherman before me came along and now the bass are educated.
  9. Shimano crucial 7'2" MXF Tierra 1500. I like the smaller lighter reel on this rod. It is more comfortable and feels more sensitive with lighter reel. My Tierra is away on maintenance and I have a $30 reel in the 1500 size on there rather than the $120 2500 size just to maintain light, comfortable, and my perceived sensitivity.
  10. That doesn't sound right unles you went from 8# mono to 50# braid. Braid should cast better. What # suffix are you using?
  11. As long as they are cooked. I don't know that specific parasite, but yes some fish parasites are harmful to humans if not cooked proper. Update. Tape Worm? http://warnell.forestry.uga.edu/service/library/index.php3?docID=52&docHistory%5B%5D=1
  12. Ask him one question. If you keep the 6 lbers then where will the 7 lbers come from? If he enjoys trophy fish then this should ring a cord with him. If he doesn't care about trophy fish then just enjoy your time with him and keep him on one lake.
  13. You mean the normal stuff like spend X amount on a boat designed for fishing gear and ease of fishing then spend X on gear, then spend X time getting to the lake and throwing lures, then spending 30 seconds excitedly reeling in a fish, just to admire it for another 30 seconds an throw it back with only a memory to go home with. No, nothing abnormally eccentric.
  14. no for fishing muddy water fast moving lures (cranks, spinners, etc..) pitching into thick cover yes for clear open water presured or non biting fish. fishing around sharp objects (zebra muscles, rocks, etc.) To save your rod and reel when trying to pull out a snag, wrap the line around the rod next to the reel, then walk backwards with the rod pointed straigt at the lure / snag.
  15. It lifts the motor up without tilting it.
  16. Just a shot in the dark, but maybe a safety type governing device malfunctioning. I would think you need electronic analysis by a Merc certified mechanic. Or maybe a safety type governor acting correctly in which case you have something more wrong on your hands. On an older motor I would assume it is intermittently missing a cylinder and trouble shoot the ignition. Starting by removing a spark plug wire while the motor is running to see if it affects the performance. If no change in performance with the wire off then that cylinder is not firing for some reason. Check each cylinder. good luck.
  17. that doesnt look stable lol not big not fast not stable Good thing I am a surfer. Great ballance. ps. i took the wheels off. lol
  18. Wow. Sounds like pencil pushing is a good business to be in. I have 6 rods. My boat is not big enough to cary more than that.
  19. not big not fast but suprisingly cumfortable
  20. +1 Even if it is a florescent it has the right power going to it. Remove the light fixture and install a light and outlet combo. White to white black to black. Be sure to turn off the light switch first.
  21. My favorite is a cheap used office chair. A good back, a smooth swivel, and an adjustable hight. Won't work in all situations, but my jon and canoe both have them. I took the wheels off before use.
  22. I have one HMX that i bought for $50. i like it. i think it is a big step up from a lightning rod. but i have other better rods that i use more of.
  23. Yes you need a charger for immediately after the first time you use it. Keep your batteries on a smart charger whenever not on the water. Never run your batteries all the way down. Check the water level every few uses and if the top of the lead plate is exposed add DISTILED water only. If your batteries sit uncharged for much more than a day it shortens their overall lifespan. If the acid inside is lower than the top of the lead plate it sulfates the exposed lead thereby reducing charge capacity. If you run the battery all the way down, same thing. Try to keep your batteries above 30% at the end of the day. Since you have 2 batteries, and if they are both deep cycle you could (should in my opinion) hook them together in parallel. This will maximize your time on the water. It will act like one big battery. You can run your trolling motor and electronics off of it. If your electronics have a volt meter then you can monitor your battery usage on the water and know when to return to the ramp rather than waiting till you notice the slow down that comes with depleted batteries.
  24. To a guy with a square back canoe I would think it would be worth $100 to $150 provided he gets to test drive it and it behaves perfectly. But I am in Orlando and can't say what prices should run in your neck of the woods.
