Jig Fishing Questions
One of the most telling video's I saw was KVD fishing cranks on Hook and Look. Multiple times the bass would inhale the crankbait and KVD felt nothing. This was a moving bait, jig bites would be even harder to detect, and the last I checked KVD was a pretty good fisherman. With that said, Big O is making some great suggestions on improving bite detection. The saying "hook sets are free" holds very true for jigs. If you feel or see anything odd, set the hook.

Co Angler Blues....
Check out the rules before joining a club, my has a rule against a co-angler running the boat. We can only do it if its a team tourney or if its a normal boater vs. boater, co vs. co tourney, if the boater has to retie and it would put us in danger to not have someone on the trolling motor. Keeping a good attitude, and trying to keep you boater positive definitely is a bonus. Everyone has their days when things don't seem to go right, getting frustrated only lowers your concentration which makes things worse. Having your boater lose concentration ruins the day for both of you.

Getting Started In Tournaments
Non-boaters and co-anglers are those of us who don't have our own boat. We fish from the back deck of the boat.

Phrases - Where Did It Come From?
I had a college instructor who loved to talk about the meeting behind phrases like this. How a dollar got called a buck, goes back to when fur trading was going on as the west was settled. A dear skin was worth $1. Or "be there will bells on", goes back to the days or horse drawn carriages. If you ran into trouble you gave the bells from your carriage to who helped you. so showing up with bells on meant you had a safe trip.

Maryland's Who's who!
Nice setups, they should perform very well for you. I like the flouro-clear, I use it on one of my spinning setups. Use mostly straight flouro but have to keep a couple setups for topwater. Have had no issues at all with the p-line. Fishing is tough this time of year, only have the 2 heated water discharges or lower potomac. Unless the canal has not frozen over yet but haven't been there to check it out.

Maryland's Who's who!
Hopefully the shopping went well. What areas you fishing up there? Ever come down to Black Hills or other places down here? Once the weather gets better in spring maybe figure a way to get some fishing in. Any questions I am sure someone on here can help.

Maryland's Who's who!
Welcome Dramer77!!!!!!! There are a few guys from the area, some really good, other not so much..... joking Unfortunately I do not know of any good tackle shops, in the area. I learned the most when I started fishing with some of the guys on here. And I joined a local club www.fishonbassanglers.com, I live in Germantown now, although I grew up in the Hagerstown area (Boonsboro). We do have a member of our club who lives in Hagerstown so not out of the question, if you are interested let me know I can give you the details. For tackle, most of my better stuff has been bought online, here in the Flea Market section, or thru members of my club.

I Have The Best Wife & Son Ever...
My wife does not see why I enjoy fishing so much but she still supports me. She realizes she does not know what to get so she gets a couple hundred dollars worth of gift cards so i get what I need (want...) I get my daughter every other weekend, if this falls on a one day tourney they let me fish it while they do their own thing for the day. Still trying to figure out what to get with this years gift cards, and some extra money from a bonus at work. Don't need any rods or reels, I am a co-angler so no point in having what I can't carry. Have 10 combos already. Will figure out something....

What Do You Use? No Brands!
For number of fish caught, jigs or soft plastics. The most fun to me, topwater.

New Forum Suggestion
Don't ever remember cooking it in anything other than a cast iron skillet or griddle.

New Forum Suggestion
I always mix some salt/pepper into flour to dip it in before frying, helps hold it together. It is actually rather easy to make yourself if you can't find it in a local store.

Made In U.s.a. Makes A Difference To Sportsmen
Honestly I do not look where an item I am purchasing is made. I buy what works for me at a decent price. To me the US needs to compete in the world market based on product, not attempting to guilt people into buying things based on its origin. The economy is different now, its a world economy, only way to be successful is to compete in it, not tried to barricade it off.

New Forum Suggestion
For those that say no to scrapple, why? It is nothing more that meat, broth, and seasonings thickened with either corn meal or buckwheat. Rather basic thing, just a way to not waste meat after you butcher.

New Forum Suggestion
Thanks Traveler now I am hungry Changing out scrapple for spam should be criminal...

Non Boater Tips
Yes, most times the catches are separated unless the boat only has one livewell then culling systems are used to distinguish individual catches. a. Yes, if team tourney they would both use the same livewell, some people separate the bigger fish from the ones they hope to cull to make it easier to do so later. b. That would have to be on a boater by boater basis, I have limited in a tourney and had my boater skunk but never had an issue of not enough space for my limit.

Got Kidney Stones???
Sorry to hear, had my first one a couple weeks ago, the pain cannot be described. Ended up getting surgery myself but not the laser. Post op check I am clean and no other stones so I should be good now, hopefully you get the same news when this mess is over.

Non Boater Tips
My club has boaters fishing against boaters, coanglers against coanglers. We are not competing against each other. Never had anyone purposefully "back boat" me, sometimes the pattern is not easy for a coangler but that is part of learning. Thinking of different angles or presentations when you don't have prime spots to cast to.
