  1. I just take a length of florocarbon line and tie it to the main line with a uni to uni knot. Just a length of fishing line cut off the spool and tied on, not a pre made or steel leader type setup.
  2. If your buying a reel, and think you will be upgrading again in a few years, get the 3. If you are "investing" in a long term reel you plan on keeping/usiing for many years to come, then the 800 series would be the better choice. The better drag system and higher quality bearings will show their value in the long run.
  3. I use a good length of floro leader, at least 8 ft. I've been out in the boat with others, and was literally the only person to catch fish. I would say that the the yellow line with a decent length leader has little to no effect on the fish. I have never tied the yellow line directly onto a lure/jig, so I don't know what the results of doing that would be.
  4. If memory serves me correctly, last year I was watching a TV show hosted by a famous local outdoorsman. He was somewhere in central america??? maybe the same area RedlineRobert goes to, fishing for Peacock Bass. I'm pretty sure he was with the originator of the Falcon rods. All they used were Falcon rods, and they didn't seem to have any trouble boating some pretty nice fish with the rods.
  5. It's a good thing we have mandatory overtime at work, with little free time to spend money. I think I'm going to be doing some internet buyiing during the hard water season.
  6. Well, if your stuck on Falcon lowriders, then my vote is the LFC-5-167
  7. "New" mono, braid, floro, crankbait, spinnerbait, reels, rods, worms, craws, hooks, jerkbaits, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on......... Where to start??? :-/ Ah, the good old day's when the tackle box had a frog, Jitterbug, Hula popper, a few worm hooks, and a Bass oreno.
  8. All my jigging is done with a 6'2" Spinning rod. I use a tracer line with a floro leader. The tracer line I use is yellow 12lb test braid. There are other colors, and there is also tracer colors in mono. Suffix makes an orange mono, Spiderwire and Powerpro have yellow and red braids. BPS has Mr. Crappie super visibility, there are others out there too, they just escape me at the moment.
  9. I fish out of a runabout vs. a bass boat, I have to find way's to "adjust" some presentations. I have had no issue using spooks and other topwater lures with the rod tip higher up. The only problem is, as you get to the boat, the action is harder to maintain becouse of the angle of the line.
  10. Nice. I'm still keeping the JDM monkey at bay, but, he's trying to use the Pixy reel to pull me in.
  11. No, I told you Not to mention, the frog rod looks different then the regular LTs, it's SICK. Nothing like a sick looking rod to attract more fish. ;D
  12. Well, they charge $45-$60 for those big decoration ones that don't catch fish, so I'm thinking $450-$600 for ones you can catch a lot of fish with is a pretty good deal. :
  13. If you already have the rod and are trying to figure out what to use it for, then I would say it will work great. If you have not bought one yet, and are looking, I recommend looking at extra fast action rods too. I prefer working plastics and setting the hook with the extra fast. Either way, buy what you like, like what you buy. BTW, what rod is a medium power and is rated for 1oz lures??? Most medium heavy rods are only rated in the 5/8-3/4 range for their upper limit.
  14. Well, I stopped by the SW down by work, before work, to look at the different reels. They had the Sol and Fuego on sale for $179.99. I really liked the compact size of the Sol. The handle side didn't seem to pull the reel hard to that side compared to others, I liked that. I ended up getting one to try out figuring if line capacity was an issue, I could put it on my light casting rod with lighter line. So, the sign said marked down to $179.99, it rang up $159.99, and with the $50 card I had, it cost me $109.99. I'd say that was another good deal. 8-)
  15. Ok, I now found another question. The Steez and the Sol are listeed on the Daiwa website as having the Magforce-V brake, and the Zillion and the Fuego have the Magforce-Z. What is the difference??
  16. Hmm, I tried searching words and phrases and I came up with nothing. Well, I added the Sol to the list. That one looks like the front runner. I wish it was a little lighter, but people who review it seem to be beside themselves with joy over using it. I'll have to look into it more. Yeah, I meant is it worth the trouble to remove the cover vs. turning the dial. So far is seems like it's not that much of a problem with the lack of need to change it often. I did get to thinking, most of the lures I will be useing will be reasonablely close to the same weight, and most will be cast the same style, so I'm guessing changing the cast control won't be much of an issue after all. Thanks so far guy's, keep the input coming if you want to, it will be atleast the middle of next week before I buy.
  17. Dang it, I meant magnetic brake not drag. It's been a long day...and night last night. I'll go up and fix that.
  18. Lube is short for lubricate, lubrication, lubricant. A word used to describe a substance that helps to reduce friction and/or wear. The two lubricants used on a reel are grease and oil. Oil bearings, worm gear ( the gear for the line guide you are asking about), and the shaft for the crank. Grease gears, bushings, and pinions. I use Abu grease and oil...works just fine.
  19. I did some searching and didn't come up with much. Is there much of a difference between the function of the VBS vs. the Revo magnetic brake, or any magnetic brake? Basically my question is, is it worth taking the cover off for the VBS style system, is it that much better? I am considering the ShImAnO Chronarch mg and the Revo Premier.
  20. 1) Pflueger Trion 2) Pflueger Supreme
  21. High visability yellow braid with a floro leader. I use 10lb braid with 10lb leader, but lb test is more of an enviroment factor. Use the lb test that is needed for your enviroment. PP braid (soon to be replaced with Spiderwire yellow). Seaguar carbon pro leader (the only leader line I will use).
  22. Toilet paper/paper towel cores will work, if you want to be a little more fancy, 'Eye fisherman have special holders for snells/Lindy rigs that are designed specifically to hold pre-rigged leaders.
  23. I get 1000 yard spools of 4lb for the panfish rods, lasts about 2 years. I get 3000 yard 8lb mono, which is plenty for a couple years. I still haven't bought bulk braid yet as I have not settled on which one I want for primary use. I'm most likely going to alway's use the small spool of tracer braid as I don't go through it much, and a small spool lasts a long time. I may take the plunge an buy the Yo-Z in bulk though.
  24. here I thought this was going to be a thread about new Senko swimbaits.
  25. Ah, ya beat me to it. I think the closest one to me is about 500ish miles away. I did walk out of a Cabela's once without getting anything. They were out of what I went in there for, and I didn't have time to look at other things (they were closing).
