Sweet Beaver

Featured Replies

Just wondering how you guys rig your sweet beaver and what hook you use? I recently read that Tommy Biffle texas rigs his beaver with a 5/16 ounce worm weight and a tru tungsten peg weight. How about you? Also what is your favorite color?

4/0 Owner SSW or Gam. 6/0 Octopus hook, snelled with a shrink wrap keeper.  Weight is anywhere from 1/2 oz. to 1-1/2 oz. pegged tungsten, depending on thickness of cover.  I also rig them on an open hook football jig, 3/8 oz. to 1 oz.

Weightless on a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook.

T-rigged 1/4 weight on a 3/0 ewg hook. My favorite colors are dirty sanchez and hemotoma. Although those are the only colors I've tried so far, they both produce really well.

T-rigged 1/4 tungsten 3/0 Gama EGW.

Great for flippin in the brush and laydowns.

Usually 5/0 BMF for punching.  4-5/0 EWG when fishing wood and structure.

I fish the Double Wide Beaver as a jig trailer.

Specifically, GMAN 1/2 & 3/4 oz stand-up jigs.

Black jig/ blue trailer.

This is a big presentation and you won't catch

a lot of bass, but the ones you do fool will be

HUGE!

8-)

A weightless presentation has been my best.

1/4 oz tungsten, 4-0 Trokar or Paycheck hook, parasite clip, and bobber stop or Tru tungsten stop

1/2 or 3/4 Tru-Tungsten Denny Brauer Series, PayCheck Baits 4/0 Punch Hook with Punch Barb attached. Colors... Dirty Sanchez, Okeechobee Craw, Pay Back and Penetration.

2/0 or a 3/0 ewg hook, TT 1/2oz to 3/4oz filppin style weight. If I am going to peg the weight I will switch weights all together to gambler florida rig weights, they stay where you put them because of the "gel" stuff inside them. I also like the gambler florida rig weights with the rattle in them as well.

Owner 3/0 straight shank hook (xxx strong), 3/16-5/16 tru tungsten slip sinker, parasite clip and bobber stop.

Colors:

Coonasty

Payback

Hillbilly Special

Black Neon (black w/chartreuse tip)

Outkast Tackle makes an awesome bluegill colored jig also, works great here in the northern states

what I like about the OSP jig is the eye of the hook is perpendicular to the shank, not in line with the shank, if that was clear.  It puts the hook into the top of the mouth on the set and lose very few fish.

The bait it is setting on works well for women. ;)

Where do you buy those jigs?

you can purchase those jigs on that Internet auction site or a couple of the Japanese on line merchants.  japanprofishing.com or bass.co.jp are among them

I started using the Sweet Beaver just this past spring with great results. I rig it with a 4/0 EWG and I put one of those "Sluggo" nail weights inside. The LM love 'em!  ;)

I'm mostly using the Smallie Beaver as a Jig trailer, too.

The PowerBait Beast in the smaller size is great as a trailer, too. It's wider, and you can get a tube-like spiraling fall out of a jig with it as a trailer - deadly for dock-skipping.
