You Had To Have It

Bishop Franz- Peter Tebatz- van Elst is better known in the Catholic community as the "Bishop of Bling". Let's just say that 'piety' and 'humility' aren't this guy's strong suits and earlier this week he was suspended by Pope Francis for his extravagances. Namely, the Pope is a little PO'd because the 'Bishop of Bling' recently spent $55 MILLION dollars on renovations to his official residence. He'd been approved to spend $7.5 million, but he overspent by a mere $47.5 million. But then, who among us doesn't need a $20,000 bathtub, or a $35,000 conference table or a $1,000,000 garden? Those are just a few of the things the Bishop "had" to have.

On that note, a friend of mine just spent $80 earlier today on a hot dog roller for the office... because he "needs" it. He'd been talking about it for weeks and finally made it a reality. He had to have it.... just like a disco ball, theremin, fog machine, suit of armor, and fuzzy Uncle Sam hat. Yep. leads to today's question:

WHAT DUMB THING DID YOU ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY HAVE TO BUY?

A spiked collar for my cat comes to mind first. 40 bucks for this thing and the stupid cat lost it. It was a three row spiked bracelet I converted to a collar.

Some various golf clubs come to mind too.

Let me mull it over for a bit. I have bought some insanely stupid things. 1000 dollar bottle of champagne, jewellery. I know I can top those though.

Hidden by Glenn, October 30, 2013 - Arguing about semantics. Whatever.

All in the name of religion though.

I can pretty much say I haven't bought many things in my life that I "had" to have. Built a brand new house in 08 because I wanted to, not because I needed to. Bought a new truck in 09, not because I had to have one, but because I wanted one. I think in this day and age that a lot of people don't simply buy the things they have to have, rather things the want.

My want, is a lot stronger than me need.

It's not dumb if I can justify it in my head.

I hope my son doesn't read this and ask me what it means. Guess I will have to tell him what a hooker is.

Years ago I HAD to have 4 Power Pak shad after watching the Infomercial. Learned my lesson.

One of these.  Only shot it for 6 months before unloading it for a "downgrade" which I love much more and still have.  Actually traded it in and got my new gun and $2500 to boot

Did the late model GTO's come in any other color but red? If they did, I haven't seen one.

Kreighoff

You have serious good taste in firearms. When I was hunting I preferred my barrels side by side and two triggers, I was limited to an AYA 4 boxlock, a friend of mine used Arrietas, I'd have to get a second mortgage to get a Purdey! Krieghoff makes some fine weapons though.

Krieghoff k-80.

Traded "down" to a Blaser F3

Best bang for the buck at the time IMO. I was going to get one too but my wife said no. So I bought a trailblazer SS instead.

Dumbest thing I ever bought?    You mean I have to pick just one?

300 + bags of plastics. Could have got by with a bag of plumworms.
