I have read that once you find a rod mfgr. you like you should try and stick with that in your different lengths and actions since you are familiar with them.  Do you feel that this is accurate?  I see that there are some that do this on the site and have been considering the same thing but still need to play with a few other brands if I were to go this route.

Im not sure if it matters to much as long as you get the rod that fits your application.

I have mostly custom rods that I've built with 4 or 5 factory rods thrown in the mix.  The factory rods are from different manufacturers and the custom rods are built on a variety of blanks.  I do build them the way I like them though, so there is some consistency in that.  I've never found switching between rods to be a problem.

I like to stick with one company.

 

it does make it easier when selecting a new rod as you are already familiar with the actions, powers, ect ect.

also, I think it makes fishing easier too, like when you changing throughout the day. It almost feels like you really are not changing since you have everything balanced out from bait to bait since all the rods act the same given the chosen technique.  

I have 6 spinning, and 8 casting rods from Abu Garcia (Vengeance, Vendetta's, and Veritas's) , and 2 Berkley casting rods (Lightning rod Shocks). My spinning reels are a mix of Abu. and Pflueger. My casting reels are a mix of Abu, and Shimano.

I have 4 shimano casting rods, 3 shimano spinning, and 1 Fenwick spinning rod.

Out of the 8, im usually using 4. A frog rod, cranking rod, top water/jerkbait rod, and a dropshot/shakeyhead rod.

I stick with St Croix mostly with 3 spinning (Rage and mojo) and my three casting rods are st croix and i also have a kistler crank bait rod.   I like St Croix but when it is time to change or more realistically when i want to change i am going to give either shimano or kistlers a try.

 

As far as fly rods go I am pretty loyal to Sage but do have one st croix that is awaiting being sent back for warranty repair.  I have owned many different brands though, reddington, cortland, TFO, Gloomis etc....but it seems the majority of the time the Sage fits my casting stroke the best so it makes it easy to buy sight unseen as there aren't any places around here that have a decent selection of rods.

Agreed. Plus when you can talk with the owner of the company and get recommendations, it helps.

I have a total of 7 now working on 8. I've narrowed it down to two rod manufactures right now.

2 brands make up the majority of my saltwater rods, I do have a couple of other manufacturers represented.  Main criteria is an ample foregrip and decent length for the butt.  My freshwater arsenal  is 3 spinning rods, light, ml, and med, 3 different brands, all inshore enabling me to find one with foregrip and non split handle easy to find.  Usually I fish 1 at time, today I fished with 2 for salt and 2 for freshwater, no adjustment time needed.

11 croix and one Dobyns. Dobyns has never seen water yet so could be a game changer. Refraining from buying the 705cbmf Glass rod right now. Its not a need but just a want, especially at % 25 off.

Are you talking total number of rods or just the ones that make the traveling team?    Anyway, when I'm fishing by myself I carry 20 rods, + or - a few.   When I have someone else with me in my boat, I try to keep to less than a dozen.  When I am fishing back deck in someone else's boat, I try to keep it to 6 or so.

title of thread and content are different. what brand, what actions...i assume brand...i dont have many rods but i have abu daiwa and will get *** soon. my preferred so far is daiwa

I don't really stick to the same brand of rod like I do reels. For reels I really like shimano and Daiwa with a few others sprinkled in. For rods I have them from the following lines:

I do have a few withing each of these lines if I really like that line. Some of what I have is older and discontinued but to me it serves a certain niche.

Vendettas, veritas, paired with Revo Sx make up most of my tournament arsenal.  I do have a few odd balls but when you reach down to change technique it is nice that the set up feels the same.

Falcon Cara's make up a majority of the rods I fish but I also use rods from St.Croix, Dobyns and Gloomis.  A total of around 20 or so.

I was looking for rod "brands" in your arsenal not how many you bring.

Currently I fish with two brands. St. Croix and a Carbonlite. Legend tournament, Avid, and Rage.

I have about half as many rods, but almost a dozen different brands with different model lines within a brand.  I personally don't see the need to stay with one brand.  Some do.  Is it beneficial?  Doubt it.  A friend sticks with St. Croix.  That is his choice.  Nice rods.  Could he do just as well with a mix of brands?  Certainly.

it would be nice to have all one brand rod, I really like the new shimano rods, and would switch all of my bottom contact rods with either crucials or compre's, but that is not really an option when you have 30+ combos, that being said I use shimano, st. croix, daiwa, W&M, gander mountain brand, berkley, quantum, scheels brand, BPS brand, and abu gargia. If I could buy all them again I would stick with shimano for bottom contact and W&M for moving baits.
