Favorite Jig Weight

Featured Replies

I'm looking at strictly jig fishing this year. I would like to know what everyone's favorite jig weight is? And favorite colors too?

Finesse, grass, swim, football & brush jigs.

Football head. I fish 1/4 to 1oz.

Swim jigs 1/4 to 1oz.

I use black and blue, green pumpkin with purple . Green pumpkin with oragne. Those are my favs. Favortie 3/8 oz , black blue caw fatty trailer. Both style heads. Also green pumkkin/ Orange with havoc subwoofer gre3n pumpkin organe flake.

Just a couple i use. But for me those are ny go to colors for new places i go or if thw bit is tough.

3/4 oz football in the summer and a 1/2 oz any other times.  I will downsize if the bite is tough.  Only about 10% of the time tho.

Here are some of my favorites that I use quite a bit.

Finesse  5/16-3/8   PBJ is one of my favorites

grass  3/4-1oz   Blue bug

swim  3/8  bluegill, bloody shad

football  3/4  blue craw, blue bug

brush  3/8-1/2  blue bug, blue craw, bama craw, pbj, sweet craw,

This guy also makes an awful nice 1/4oz swim jig.  One of my favorites in various perch/bluegill colors.

The 3/8oz is my starting point though.  If I fished a lot of deeper water it might be 1/2oz+

i like 1/4 oz jigs for grass less than 8 ft, 3/8 for grass between 8-16 and 1/2-3/4 oz for deeper than 16 ft with grass. for wood i like 1/4 oz, and rock i like a little heavier than grass so i typically start with 1/2 and go heavier the deeper i get. colors I like natural green pumpkin or watermelon with a flash of color, or black/blue and black/red...

i go with 17 .5 oz on my right foot like to keep that bad boy planted for my serves. left foot i like light so i can lift it higher typically 1 oz sneaker , sometimes  sock or no sock depends.

basketball is opposite, heavy on my left for more momentum when I'm slaming down dunks, light on the right so gravity doesn't hold me down.

hope that helps.

No - more of a through the lily pad stems, over & under the wood,  Up & Down the Rock ledge, in & around the Docks, and open water type of thing.
