Personally I like trailers that I can slide down the entire hook, whether it's the whole baits or cutting maybe half and inch and sliding it down. I have confidence in rigging my jigs this way--without super glue or adding any scent to my jigs... although I do want to try dipping my jig in JJ's. 

 

I ordered some Uncle Josh's Meat Craws to try out and then it hit me: they are chunks, you can't slide then all the way down--I'm gonna have to poke through the the middle of the chunk. Now I know this is normal for some people since they only use chunk style baits on their jigs... 

 

Do you guys think it gives a really different presentation to the fish? I feel like sliding the bait down gives it a bulkier profile, but using a chunk makes it look like a longer, bigger craw. Do you guys have more confidence in one over the other? Am i over thinking it here?

I do both. The chunks should have precut holes to put your hook through at the front of the bait. Other trailers like grubs and craws get threaded on the hook. I have threaded the plastic chunks on the hook before though when I want those flapper arms with a shorter profile. 

If the trailer is a chunk, then I poke the hook through the center.  If the trailer is something bulky like a craw, I will either thread it like a plastic worm, or cut it in half and poke the hook through the back part.

Always thread the trailer on. Even if its a chunk. I've never tried pork chunks.

I rarely use anything other than a chunk as a trailer, but I ALWAYS thread it all the way on to the hook. I never hook it through the center. I feel like the bass is not as likely to get the hook in his mouth if I don't. I'll also cut the skirt down to match the size of the chunk. I like to fish a compact jig most of the time, but there is the rare occasion that I want to fish something bulky. That's when I find a bigger jig and something like a full size chigger craw or beaver style bait as a trailer. I'll still thread it onto the hook and trim the skirt down to match the size of the trailer, but it will be larger.

I thread almost 100% of the time..............even chunks

I thread a toothpick through the bait about 1/4 inch down from the top (then cut the ends of the toothpick not in the bait). Then I put the hook right under it so that the whole bait gets the action not only the legs. The toothpick helps this action, and keeps from tearing the bait also. 

I thread all my trailers all the way up the hook especially chunks cause I'm usually skipping them.  I've never even thought of just barely hooking them before but I'll be givin it a try this year as I can see how it would flare a little bit better and give it a bit more action.

I do both, but mostly thread it up.

I thread the mister twister 4" split double tail grub trailer straight down the hook on the middle of the plastics. I do this on everything.

I thread my trailers on as well.  For a lot of the reasons you mentioned.  I do not use chunks of trailers.  I like the Netbait Craws and the Yamamoto DT hula Grub.

I thread mine on. I haven't used chunks yet, but I plan to try them and I was planning to thread them on too.

I thread them on like your first photo 99.% the time.  It seems like every time I try to just hook the tip the trailer ends up in a ball around the hook.

Keep it simple, thread on a Rage Lobster and call it a day.
