Dissapointed With The Strike King Rage Blade.

Featured Replies

Have used this lure numerous times this year. Its black & blue (proven color). Have used different trailers on it, first the one it came with, then a slug-go, then a black & blue craw, then a small swimbait. This thing hasn't caught me nothing. My chatterbait brand on the other hand has caught me two big bass and a big pickerel. What gives?

I only use the black and blue when Im using the chatterbait in deeper or muddy waters.. I've not gotten bit b4 on the black and blue.

I put a green skirt on mine and put a craw on it.. caught me a couple of prespawners this year.

I use Zman and SK and SK doesnt hang up as much but I like the larger hooks on my Zman.

have you tried slowing down the retrieve to be near the bottom?

Crank that thing as slow as you can, even bumping bottom when possible.

The Rage is made to be fished very slow but still have the same action as a faster moving chatter bait..fast retrieve will bring the rage blade to the surface.

I think your fishing it wrong , like everyone is saying . Work it slow drag the bottom , your trailer is really prefrence but id go for craws.

I agree with the OP. I have 3 different colors of the rage blade that haven't produced. I switch to the same color pure poison and catch fish.

I had the opportunity to fish with The Man himself! Big O used a modified Eeliminator for the trailer.

He fished the Rage Blade slowly, ticking the bottom and/ or the top of a weed bed. The modification

was simply trimming the sides of the body. The resulting profile matches that of a mature threadfin

shad (yellowtail).

I absolutely love my Rage Blades.  I caught fish after fish on them after slowing down my retrieve as RW mentioned above.  If I want to move faster I up the weight and it works just fine for me.

I really think it boils down to conditions, time and place more than anything.

Ie i have lakes where i kill em on spinnerbaits and swimjigs and other lakes where the fish wont touch either even though the waters are very similar

ok i am reeling to fast then based on what u guys are saying, next time im out i'll be sure to drag the bottom. and maybe put a tasty Rage Craw for a  trailer :o

^This. Absolutely agree.

So, are yall fishing the Rage blade like any other jig? Just kinda with a drag, stop, and twitching?  Or are you contantly reeling, but super slow? Or do both work???  I just got a couple and going to the lake in a few days. Thanks yall

It's not a jig, the Blade is a Rage version of the Chatterbait (modified spinnerbait).

Bottom line is i added 4 new chatterbaits to my tackle and 0 rage blades. Im not gona fin-s this thing fishing it as slow as i can. With a bladed jig i want to search and cover water. Another point- the skirt is positoned like half way down the shank, makes it look kind of unatural with a bare shank between the blade and skirt/trailer. I think my rage blade will be relegated to the bottom of my binder. And i think that clip of shaw grigsby was just a spot for strike king.

ColdSVT and I were fishing yesterday and discussed this thread. I decided to throw on my rage blade and it didn't take long for me to switch back to a Pure Poison. The rage blade just doesn't work as well, especially in thick grass.

I want to jump in here. I had written about how I don't like the Rage Blade before. It rides too high in the water.

I had a tournament on the Chesapeake Bay yesterday, and all the fish would hit (in my area) was a black/blue rage blade with a pearl white Little Dipper on the back. They wanted an erratic stop an go retrieve.

Yes, I tried an original Chatterbait with no success. Everything has it's time and place.

The Rage Blade isn't designed to do exactly what a Chatterbait or Pure Poison style bait does. It's design specific for when the fish need heavy vibration action at slower swim or retrieve rate and with a few less snags and more weed proof than the others. There are situations where this is what fish are looking for and it's a similar pattern where swimbaits are productive as well. The photos are from a recent trip where I needed it to get the bites I wanted. It was 10 to 12ft water and the fish were on the bottom in scattered brush.

Also used it at the Roadtrip and fished it a lot in the Wilson Lake tail race. It turned out to be my go-to there :)

Way to give it another shot Mega!  I say you don't use a phillips head when a flat head is what you need.  BUT there are different sized flat heads.  A lure is nothing but a tool for the job!  Sometimes the same type of tool just doesn't get the job done!
