My friend and I started throwing these "spook" type lures and got the active school to bite.  I think we caught around 7 or 8 off between us off this school.  Fun times!

Looks like that fish might be 1.53 kilograms. Wrong setting on the scale maybe?  I've done that before.

I bet that's what it was, I have the little Rapala one that loves to do that from time to time. Thanks for catching that! Now I know it was 3.4lbs. I guessed 3.2 before I put it on the scales

I've been on this lake before and have caught a few nice bass on frogs/worms out here but it seems our old spot has been skunked or something couldn't catch anything.

However, It did allow me to see others fishing from what looked like a bank across the lake "Huge lake"

We of course went to their spot one day early in the morning and late at night and caught these bass.

My sister and I had the same setup, I was teaching her how to rig a weighted T-Rig lizard and have it dragging on the bottom to feel for things and i had many bites on mine with this setup while talking to her and was catching them like crazy but sadly when the sun was going down the bites ended and i wasn't quite sure what to use for dark/night fishing so i went home.

It's moments like this i wish i could afford a small boat just so i could go anywhere on the lake and not be limited.

Jerkbait kind of day...Rapala Shadow Rap Shad in yellow perch produced on outside weed edges.

Haha 8 hrs is my usual average.  Those pics I just posted from my first Barrett Lake trip, I was there at 4:30am and left the water at 7ish pm.  We did take about a 1.5hr break in the car in the AC during 2-330pm to escape the heat.  That was the most tiring day of all.

 

I always bring an ice chest full of ice, water and coconut water and constantly set reminders on my phone to drink water no matter what.

 

I only have one day off a week from work so I maximize my day off by doing what I love to do most, fish for bass!!

Awesome job.  I love DVL.  Only been once but it was great.  I only wish they were open on Mondays, my only day off.

Kind of in limbo as boatless bank trash at the moment, but banked 15 little chunks in 75 minutes after work the other day despite the post frontal clearing skies, stained water and 15 mph NNE winds.

I feel ya on that. Thursdays are my best day so lakes like Hodges, Otay, El Cap, Barrett etc are no good, the lake schedules are a major bummer.

Nice catch, especially from the bank.  If you ever want to get off the bank and come back out here and fish from my boat (we could even user our bigger boat that we use for tournaments), you're always welcome to.  Don't worry about weird timing, I'm almost always open

Ah man ya most of the SD lakes are closed to fishing on Thurs. So weird with their schedule. I was able to switch my day off to Wednesday last week just so I could visit Barrett for the first time.

Yesterday I took my new kayak out for it's maiden voyage. I brought a baitcaster rigged with a wacky rigged Yum Dinger and a spinning reel rigged with a Trout Slayer lure.

 

First fish I caught was a 2lb, 11oz Largemouth Bass. He took up the whole front tray of my kayak. He was the best fish of the day.

 

I ended the day with 10 fish total, 1 Largemouth, 1 Smallmouth and 8 Redbreast Sunfish (all sunfish were caught on the Trout Slayer) Overall a great day on the water. I am loving kayak fishing.

Mine also does that, and I haven't even cared to try to get it back to pounds. I am getting good with the metric system though.

I purchase the Pelican Tracker Angler 100, a Dick's Sporting Goods exclusive. Its basically the Pelican Trailblazer model with 2 rod holders installed. $229 on sale, regular $299.

 

Best feature of this kayak is it weighs 38 pounds. I am able to car top it by myself. Once at the water I am able to take it off the roof put my shoulder in the cockpit and carry it with ease.

 

It really opened a whole new word for me.

The top picture is sweet looking with the fog coming off the water.  Fishing in Michigan I can definitely relate to that imagery.

Air temps were high 50's to low 60's at 6:30am Sunday by me. My wife came down to the river to take some pics of my maiden voyage. She is a pretty good photographer. It was one of her college courses. Glad to know those student loans were worth something  

 

I know she was really there to take pictures if I flipped the kayak and ended up all wet.

Our haul this past week.  Yes that is the Potomac, Virginia side.  The rest are home in Jersey.

Well, I may have only caught one bass but i'm proud of myself.

I caught it on a frog i never used before, on mono line i never used before and i'm still new to bait casting.

I had my ups and downs with bait casting and even wanted to give up but i stuck with it.

A few bird nest here and there but not as bad as before and i can throw as far as i could with my spinning rig and no bird nest.

Improvement feels great.

My sister caught a bass, some rainbows and sunfish and even a catfish on real worms, I wanted to keep using my frog lol.
