Which type of line do you prefer for throwing chatterbaits / spinnerbaits / swim jigs?

for those id be using either 30lb braid or 15lb fluoro

Forgot to clarify that it would be on a spinning setup. Size 2500 reel / 68MXF rod. Thanks.

I throws those baits with fluoro on casting gear.

On a spinning reel it is going to be hard to beat braid, with or without a leader.  Between Mono and FC, I would use a good nylon based mono line, FC will be much more of a challenge due to its stiffness.

Fluorocarbon IS monofilament.

I go a couple of ways here - either a glass rod & braid or a graphite stick & mono.

 

Seems to me they both work out the same.

You are absolutely correct RoLo,  but somehow over the years the term has come to be synonymous with  Nylon.     Thanks for pointing it out, I should have been more specific in my reply.

Braid with a Flouro leader is the key with a spinning set up.

Spinning reel, Daiwa Samuri 30 braid tied direct for the reaction style lures you plan to use.

Actually I wasn't referring to your reply but to the thread title,  In any case, you are absolutely correct.

 

Funny how 'line material' (nylon - fluorocarbon - copolymer - polyethylene)

got convoluted with 'line construction' (monofilament - cofilament - braided).

When I fished in saltwater, I had both monofilament nylon and braided nylon on my boat      

There is also braided dacron, braided linen and braided kevlar,

yet today the word "braid" automagically assumes 'polyethylene'.

I use a moderate fast stick with 30 lb braid, and a fast action stick with 12 lb. fluoro. Both medium heavy

For spinning reels (2500 series)  - here are my set ups :

 

* Drop Shot / Shakey Head : 6lb. ~ 8lb. flouro

* Small Hard Jerk Bait : 8lb. mono

* Small Top Water Poppers :  8lb. ~ 10lb. mono

* Super Fluke Jr. 15lb. braid + 8lb. fluoro leader

 

Everything else I use a baitcast reel for ...

For your set-up, I would use 20# braid with a fluorocarbon leader if you deem necessary.

On the contrary, much of what I write is for the benefit of novice anglers.

It's the novice who's most vulnerable to misinformation, false notions and misnomers.

The best service a BR member can offer is to deliver the facts, tell it like it is, and allow the reader form his own opinion.

I think I speak for most anglers when I say that we welcome the facts, but are intimidated by misinformation.

 

(BTW: I have lots of dacron braid in my line drawer, but back on track: I also have nylon braid - nylon mono - fluoro mono & copoly cofilament)

A quality Flurocarbon is the way to go here. On a 2500 series reel I haven't had any issues with up to 10lb fluoro. I fish Tatsu, Shooter and FC Sniper. Use backing on whatever line you choose to save some cash.

I wouldn't use f/c at all unless I was concerned with abrasion or stealth, which I don't see the need with a moving lure.  A f/c leader used with either mono or braid would work just fine.

I like braid or flouro...but if im swimmig a jig through heavycover i like braid

15lb or 17lb Fluoro is what I use, always casting gear. If I went to spinning, I would probably use 40 or 50lb braid with a fluoro leader, but for swim jigs and chatterbaits, I sure hope that spinning rod has a tremendous backbone.

Depending on the cover you are fishing I would use either 10 lbs copolymer or 30 lbs braid.

On casting gear I use 15# Invisex floro.

For lighter applications I use 20# braid with a 12# floro leader on spinning gear.
