Do You Listen?

Featured Replies

I fish primarily from shore and almost exclusively by myself.  I also love music.  I am reluctant to listen to music through headphones while fishing simply because I use all my senses including listening to make decisions while fishing.  On the other hand, I think music would help ease the boredom of cast after cast.  Not that I think fishing is boring, but you know how it is when you're fishing for hours by yourself and catching a fish once every 20 or 30 casts.

Thoughts?

I personally don't, but I know why someone would.

For me it's about doing a complete 180 from everything else in my life. I can listen to music while I work, and having 3 kids, it's ALWAYS noisy. I like to unplug and just appreciate the outdoors.

Also, I want to know if someone is walking up behind me.  :)

I dont, but I may start throwing the country station on through Oandora on my phone. I bank fish also, and it would ease some of the slower moments. Kept in my pocket, would give me a good volume while still being able to hear my surroundings.

Nature has plenty of music that I don't need more.

THIS.

And, it's hard to hear surfacing fish nearby with headphones on.  Like I said, I've never done it, but have been considering it.

I took a spell where I did?.... But it was short lived I really prefer to hear nature and potential hazards around me.

find the fish bite better  when I am rolling some Jawga Boys Bottleneck Mikel Knight or Earl Dibbles Jr. :)

There's a lot to be said for the sound of silence.

I'm a musician, and i'm obsessed with music, but when i fish my focus is 100% on the water, my line, and my surroundings. 20-30 casts? lucky. lol i sometimes walk hundreds of yards for hours on end waiting for a bite

Violinguy I could not agree with you more!

Shoot, If I were catching one fish for everyy 20 or 30 casts, I'd think I was in heaven and if so, I'd be listening to the angeles singing.

When I was a teenager I used to do that all the time, asmsoon as I casted a line BOOM! My headphones instantly went in, and then when I had a fish in I would pop them out (not sure why) brin g in the fish then but them back in.

I go fishing to get away from the noise, not to bring it with me.

I use to have a radio on while catfishing from the bank to listen to the ball game.  I never have had a radio on while bass fishing.

Sooo many great answers here....guess it's all in what you want.  You can sit in a park and listen to music.  When fishing tend to find it more successful when you can listen to whats going on around you.  Fish jumping or chasing, deer snorting, twigs snapping (somethings coming), or watchin a snake come at ya instead of being lost in the tunes....better to be lost in nature.

My 2 cents

Music keeps my confidence up

I like the sounds of nature and being able to get close to the wild life on the lakes. Where i fish, mainly mt. lakes, if you have the need for music, there's always some clown in a wakeboard boat with a boom boom box blasting away.

Sometimes i do...just loud enough for me to hear it...on sundays i listen to the nascar race

I'm never bored while fishing....after 30 casts....or 130. I love the outdoor experience. Especially when it gets super quiet! :)

I can't imagine not hearing a bass break the surface, pan fish feeding on top, loons calling, beavers slapping the water and deer walking along the waters edge. That's the only music I need to here.

There's too much noise everywhere. No need to bring some with me when I'm trying to relax. Fishing for me is very calming.

Most guys here don't, but ultimately the decision is yours. Just don't play it loud enough that others can hear. I listen to it every once in a while whenever the fishing is slow, but normally I prefer the silence. Just personal preference.

I wish I could go to that place where you catch a fish every 20 or 30 casts.

Yes I do listen....that's why music on my boat is conspicuous by its absence.

I'm listening to the music of nature, the deep bellow of the alligator, the impact made by a diving osprey,

the haunting cry of sandhill cranes, and most importantly, the unmistakable splash of a surface feeding bass
