How many of you only use high speed reels now?

I am about to be leaning that way.  I hardly ever throw deep cranks anyways.  

ive been considering it, it seems like they would be a better fit really

I use all high speed reels except for my deep crankin set ups, those two have Curado 200E5s. I feel like I can't reel in slack line fast enough with 6.X:X ratios and if I need to slow down a bit I always can with a 7.1:1 or higher. Oh and I have a Chronarch 200E6 for swimbaits, but my other 7 reels are 7.1:1 and above.

Me... I have one 6.4:1 and all my other casting reels are 7:1 or higher. I hardly ever throw cranks of any kind and really never the deep ones. High speed reels are so much better for the things I do more regularly. The 6.4:1 gets used for cranking duty if I need to and spinnerbaits. That's about it

I have a mixed lot of 5.1 to 6.4.1 to 7.1.1 speeds / power if you will.... But my 300e/d are about 30" per turn @ 6.2.1 they are great tools for different methods.... For trig and such I really prefer high speed, I guess to answer you're question I am not going to go all high speed at this time.

It's easier for me to reel faster than it is for me to slow down. Most of my reels are in the 6.X:1 range. I have a couple with a 7+ ratio and I don't care for the speed that much, to be honest.

All of my reels are 7:1 or higher except for my cranking reel and it is a 6.3:1 reel.

I've have 7:1:1 Plueger Patriach, two Abu Garcia Revo Rockets at 9:0:1, and a Abu Garcia SX in 6:4:1.

I almost never use the SX. I bought it because I thought I needed a slower reel but I really don't.

I do a lot of topwater, spinnerbaits, and now trying to use jigs, T-Rigs, and cranksbaits more this year.

I have a range of gear ratios and IPT, this way I never have to decide if I need to slow down or speed up my retrieve, the reel does it for me.

High speed is a term used that can be very deceiving, 3.8 and 4:1 were called high speed 25 years ago today,  I've had 6.4:1 with 28 IPT, the same reels at 7.1:1 had 31 IPT I am happy with 7.1:1 and find it or the 6.4:1 is no huge difference to me,  but there are times I want slower and reach for a 5.4:1 at 23 IPT this is very noticeable and is a huge difference, but don't really want faster than the 7.1:1 for any application I use these reels for. Today what are you calling high speed??? It is nice we have so much today to offer everything "practically" for whatever anyone could want!

Out of of my 5 b/c outfits, 4 are high speed and 1 is a 6.4:1 ratio. I have just learned to fish the high speed reels slower and I have the speed there if the situation calls for it. 

I have one high speed Zillion and it's great but I still prefer the average speed reels (6.4:1).  I don't I could use the exclusively.

IPT from each reel company determines what gear ratio I use. Typically I like the 28-30 inch IPT for everything.

ive got some 6:1 and 7:1. love the high speed for t-rigs. may even pick up one of the *** 8;1 reels and see how they do.

The slowest bait caster I've thrown in years is 6.2:1. I'm not a fan of slow reels in the 4-5 range.  I've tried it and it does not fit my fishing style.

With the exception of a few of my older reels that I'm phasing out, I fish all 7.1:1 or higher reels. I don't fish super deep crankbaits a lot but the times I have, I haven't noticed getting "worn out" from reeling them in. I like using the faster reels because I can always slow down with with them, where it's a lot harder to speed up with a slower reel.

I hate losing fish cause I can't catch up to them and they are running at the boat so Most of my reels are 7:1. My slowest reel is 6.4:1.

Most of mine are in the 6:4 range (25-27 ipt) because I find it hard to reel slower. I have one in the 7:1 for Jigs (30 ipt). I really don't fish deeper than 10-12 ft with crankbaits, and the 6:4 work well enough for that.

Mine all range 6:4 - 8:0.

 

I sold off my last Curado 200E5.   I like many others don't do much deep water cranking.  If I go on a trip and really need one I guess I'll just buy one.
