Daiwa Laguna: 40 bucks, Shimano Sonora: 50 bucks. Now, how big are the trout ? In my neck of the woods the hatchery raised trout you can catch in the sierra grow in excess of 15 lbs, I wouldn't go fishing for those with a teeny tiny reel better suited for panfish.

I'm not a fan of the laguna spinning reel I have.  Was using it fishing white bass in the Detroit River and when I was reeling in modestly sized whites, the reel was pretty rough.  For $10 over your budget, you could get the Pflueger President which is a far superior spinning reel.

I've been buying Pflueger Purist spinning reels for $39.88 at Dunn's Sporting Goods

Abu Cardinals hold up pretty well.

Pflueger President at $59 is probably the best value reel in that price range.

Pflueger President or Trion

The trout I fish for rarly get over 2 pounds...

Pflueger purist and trion, shimano sonora, abu cardinal, and mitchel avocet all get good reviews in that price range. I bought 3 daiwa ss tournament 700 size reels for 40 each used and they aren't the prettiest to look at but are built like tanks. Theres a reason daiwa has been making them so long design unchanged. If you might consider used id definitely take a look at these

^^^^^President all the way.  Is it me or has this question popped up quite a bit lately?  And it always ends w/the same answer.

Yep, 6920 or 25 should be very good

I love my Mitchell reels. I second on the Mitchell advocate. I recently picked up the 300 pro and its a smooth reel for 64 bucks. Its probably to big for what your wanting to use it for.

The$40-$60 or so spinning reel talk begins and ends with the Pflueger President and/or Trion. I have had others (Daiwa, Shimano, Abu, etc.) in the same price ranges and always come back to the Pfleugers. There is no more experimenting with this for me. It's simple........If I need a spinning reel...........I buy a Pflueger.

The smallest size President is actually listed at $49 a lot of places, so it fits the description perfectly :)

Go look at Shop Dunns...the purist is the next step up from the President and they are selling them for 39.88 plus free shipping.  I ordered another one today and it was shipped out today via priority mail.  I have a Trion, a President and a Purist(plus another Purist on the way).  They are all outstanding reels.

I have the purist and the president and like them both. I payed full amount on purist and it was still worth it. Can handle trout very well plus even bigger bass.

If you can find it, I have seen for the Shimano Sahara for $50 on sale.  It may have been last years model but this is a great real for the money.  I think it usually goes for $70-$80.
