Just grabbed a minty Deps Killer Compass for <$20 shipped.

Man, I hope that thing is half as cool as it looks and sounds.  I've already got a few specific spots in mind for it.  Definitely going to change out the overdressed trebles for all-blacks but I think that sideways "compass" action will be slaytastic.  Anybody else got one?

Also all that gear from a few pages back just showed up a day early.  Color me stoked.  I haven't gotten a d**n thing done in the shop since the box came in haha

Preety cool looking!

Coonedawg, You got everything in that pic. for $100 or was that the tax?  Wow, what a sale.

x2

Coonedawg, You "liked" my question but didn't answer. Really, all that for $100? Come on man, the line alone, if was 50% off would have been at least $50. If I really wanted to go back to your pic. and count the items, you have what, 50-60 items? So you paid $1.25 or less for each ? $5-8 cranks for a buck or two? To quote an old movie, " what we have here, is a failure to communicate" or just simple B. I'll let you fill in the last letter.

Yea there's jusr no way.

Plum to answer your question... most everything I purchased was close to 90% off. The line was ringing up for under $2 per spool. The cranks $1.74 Each. The sinkers and jigs were under $1 each. The swimbaits were under $2. I left Dick's spending under $100. The crappie jigs on the far left came from Academy and we're clearanced out also. If you'll learn when your local stores reset their planograms each year.....you can real mop up on sales. Anymore questions homie?

Yeah, why on earth do you need that much Stren?

Would you pass up on a deal like that on braided line?

  • Super User

I was more refering to the mono and not the braid. I did kinda the same thing once on Stren fluorocast. Bought 4 spools for $2ea but it turned out not to be good line. At least for me anyhow. I think it's hard to make bad braid though.

I've never used the Stren braid before, but I figured for the price it was worth a shot. The mono on the other hand will all go on some pond set ups for bream & catfish. I help out each year with a fishing rodeo that introduces kids to fishing and that line will work out well for those kids set ups.

When I think tackle I think bait or gear. Rods and reals are more equipment or hardware in my mind.

I like this concept. Now when I purchase a new rod or reel and my wife gripes about me buying more tackle, I'll be able to tell her, this doesn't count. It's not tackle, It's hardware.....boink...doink.....boink.

Hootie

P.S. the boink doinks are things that she will throw at me, bouncing off my head for thinking she'll buy that.

My wife is to the point that she just rolls her eyes. Surprisingly she's being supportive of me getting into building my own rods lol.

I bought a Tatula Type-R 8.1:1 last week and it showed up yesterday, and to top it off I  got my LTB and a pack of twelve SK lures that I won in a FB contest...yesterday was a good day!

Mine just laughs when I start to rattle off my "logic" in the latest purchase.  None of it makes sense to her so I might as well be speaking in Dutch while I explain why I need X, Y or Z.  I use my overexuberance for tackle as a buffer zone more or less nowadays though.  Now I think she just hopes I spare her the two hour long stoke dump on why I prefer recoil guides and showing her which swimbait has which sink rate, hook setup, paint, features etc.  Nowadays I think she's more of an innocent bystander just trying to mind her own business rather than actual witness to my gear crimes lol.

It is tackle. You don't buy reels at bed bath and beyond.

Unless it's a hose reel...

Same with my woman, I might as well talk to her about hp and rpms, and I'll get the same look...

Do you speak Dutch?

mine was flabbergasted i spent 120 bucks on a rod last year. if she only knew

That's why I'm dodging that bullet for as long as possible. It would really cut into my spending.

I think as long as I don't outgrow the current rack I have she probably won't really notice or take offense.  Right now she sees 3 combos and that seems reasonable...  Little does she know how unreasonable they really are haha.

This winter I've employed a new tactic. Ship everything fishing related to my work.
