I think you would be better off getting a Medium. But like somone else said, Make sure you handle an ***. Some people dont like the handle.  But for soft plastics with an 1/8 oz up to 3/8 oz I think a Medium would work. I would look at reels that are known for casting smaller baits too, like a shimano 50 series reel.

Tough decisions abroad for me.

Just was wondering im getting a tatula or type r tatula and want to be able to feel everything. Right now im running my revo s on a vengeance rod. Not so sensitive

 

 

I have 30# power pro braid on my vengeance but thats going to become my spinnerbait/topwater rod and reel. The tatula and new rod will be my soft plastics/jig rig. I will string it eith fluoro. My question is this. If i go with a medium fast *** black. Will the lighter power sacrifice the sensitivity

 

I have/used the exact set-up of Tatula 7'M/F OmenBlack with 3/8oz jig rage craw trailer and would say pass on the combo.

One, dont think the rod/reel work together well with the different balance of the reel on the skinny handle of the rod. Always had a feeling of the reel wanting to fall/twist to the handle side.

Two, 3/8oz jig seemed too much for the rod especially with fluoro. To me the tip's power is too soft.

Three, The combo is getting up there in overall weight, now to some that doesnt matter but letting you know its not all that lightweight at nearly 13oz. Other combos in the same price range performance range can be 3-4 ounces lighter. Thats quite a difference over a days use.

The rod M/F can do the 1/8 well but would put different reel on it. If really wanting the Tat and 3/8oz jig go different rod or higher power you may like the feel.

Thats why i liked at the tatula type r looked like its a great mixture of big bait casting and lighter spool for the smaller stuff

I think there are better rods out there than a bucoo. Dont be afriad to spend more money, better to have a rod that you like than a rod that's not exactly what you want but get it because it's cheaper. I've made that mistake in the past.

1. might be difficult casting your 1/8 oz jig on a baitcaster (will depend on the reel and your skills)

2. find a rod with a foregrip, spool your reel with some good fluoro, and hold/ touch/ feel the line while retrieving.

The 1/8oz reference was more referring to my t rig weight. My jig choice is usually 3/8 5/16 or 1/4

All the recommendations I'm certain are good. One more: don't overlook the lowly Cabela's Fish Eagle Rod. Promise.

I own the older shimano crucial (black with eva grips) and personally think it is a fantastic Rod for the price point. Check out a dicks sporting goods in your area, you might be able to snag a deal, just picked up another one on clearance for $65 after tax!!!!! See if you can beat that quality for that price!!!!

This too may have been mentioned already but a brand to consider along with the many others, would be Fenwick, they have several series of rods in the price range you are looking for: HMX, HMG, and Elite Tech Bass rods.

Well, here's another one. I purchased a Diawa Lexa earlier this year.  Very light , and had a fast action.  Just ordered another one in spinning.  For under a hundred bucks they are awesome so far.

I paid $150 for a complete running boat.

St Croix Rage. To me both the casting and spinning are very sensitive rods. I have the 6'10" M/XF spinning for tubes and wacky rigs and the 7'1" MH/F and MH/XF casting rods for jigs and trigs.

Over the last couple years I think I got rabies from the tackle Monkey.  

 

My most sensitive casting rods are:

Abu Villain & Vendetta; BPS CarbonLite;*** *** Black; Diawa Tatula & Ardito (a 3 pc. travel); Abu Veritas. In that order.

 

Less sensitive casting rods are (from most to least):

Fenwick Silver Hawk; St. Croix Premier; Abu Vengeance; BPS Crankin Stick.

 

Funny thing is, my favorites are my Veritas.  They're light, load up and cast great with whichever reel I've mounted on them.

 

I'd also have to say the difference in sensitivity from top to bottom is very slight, with exception of my ML/F Crankin Stick, which feels like a rubber band but throws light spinner baits pretty well.  All of these rods, except for the Villain, are $150 or less.

 

Like others have already posted, all of this is subjective.  What feels good to me might not feel the same to someone else.  If you don't get a chance to fish the rods you're looking at, at the very least try to get to the store and handle them.

Pertaining to the OP, its really up to you. I vote my Powell Endurance.

 

Harsh.  You would cut recommendations by 2/3rds at least. 

 

I read a lot.  I often will recommend rods that others are giving great reviews on.  I try to always mention I have no experience with a rod if I don't.  I fail to see the harm in me mentioning that the KLX is getting great reviews or that the Powell rods are considered very nice rods at their price point even if i don't own or have never fished either one.  BTW, got my first Powell (an Endurance a few weeks ago).  Looking forward to next year.

 

I am a fan of Fenwick, both the Elite Tech Smallmouth and the Aetos.  Lot of rod for your money.  I like my *** since I cast 2-handed.  I wouldn't like it if I only used one hand,  Handle is too thin for me.  Very nice rod otherwise.  The Tatula rods are also getting good reviews.  I've purchased 3, but was only able to get out with one for a few minutes so can't comment from personal experience.............yet.  Zillion rods are on closeout at TW.  I like the couple I have.

That is what makes this type of post so hard to get a usable answer to--everyone has their ideas what are the best rod in their price range and they are right--they are perfect for them--I personally think the falcon BuCoo micro is a great rod in this price range

Familiarity increases sensitivity.  Choose a rod that loads well with the weights you've chosen, protects the line you will use and controls the fish you expect to catch.  After those considerations, familiarize yourself with how every little leaf, rock, twig and lure feel as you use that rod.  Practice, practice, practice...

I'd go with a Mh. M action rods are under powered for most jigs.

Don't tell him that... Not all M power rods are the same and there are plenty of jigs in the 1/8oz - 3/8oz range I'd throw on a M/F and never look back.

Phenix m1 spend the extra cash! It's awesome I have several.

Really leaning towards the kistler magnesium or klx just gotta find one and put my hands pn it

The build quality on *** Blacks can be below average, but the blank is fantastic. In my hands, it beats an EVA Crucial and a Veracity.

I read the tackle tour review and said well it seemed like tgey weren't so hot on it but my opinion may differ. Seems like the answer to my question is whichever i like the best lol

   I don't know about the most sensitive but of the rods that I have used at this price point (or even ones above this point) I like the Shimano Compre (2 or model years ago) and the Fenwick HMG's (3-4 yrs ago).

I like them both better than the St Croix Avid (a few years ago) that I have.

 

I bought a MH for the Shimano as it was all that they had in stock on sale. I'm glad that I did as the MH feels more like M but it does hold up like you would expect a MH to.

I bought a Shimano Crucial the same day as the Compre and like the Compre hands down over the Crucial.

I have both a spinning and a casting HMG. I got both on great deals and wish that I would have bought several more of ea.

 

It doesn't hurt that I got great deals on all of them (including the St Croix)

if I remember right I got the Compre for $39 or $49(?)  (Crucial for $79?)  

I got the HMG spinning for something like $60 (?)

I got the St Croix for $100 shipped to my door I'm always contemplating selling the St Croix as it doesn't do anything for me but shipping and packaging is too much of a pain to mess with.
