I have an uncle that retired from Bell South that use to do disaster relief exclusively.  He would tell me stories of climbing insanely tall towers when I was a kid.  Seeing this guy reel puts his stories into perspective.

I would have been done after the second step. I hate heights.

One of my fishing buddies son did this in the Richmond, Virginia area.

 

He was the guy who changed the bulbs on the tower on West Broad Street by the TV station.

 

Sorry to say he got married and changed jobs so he would not have to do that anymore.

 

He is a master electrician so it was easy for him to find something else to do.

Did it for years. After about a week or two you pretty much get used to it. Its real hairy at first feeling the tower move lol. Most that high have elevators in them. Thats an AM tower that has to be turned off for him to be on it. The pain in the butt climbing that tower is there's no safety climb cable that runs up it, keeping you tied off all the way up. Notice how he has to keep hooking off as you climb, that gets old after about 20'.

Not sure how old the video is but those belts arent approved and havent been for almost a decade.

So what happens if you have to take a leak?

You pee. It ends up along way from the foot of the tower most times. I would use a bottle but someguys let et rip lol. Ive heard theres a term "brown thunder", but never seen it implemented.

Great video..... I wonder how upset he would be if he realized he forgot the replacement bulb in his truck?? 

I could change the bulbs -- but first they would have to lay the tower flat on the ground

that looks fun but the guys in russian make my skin craw when they're hanging off the side of a building by their fingertips and no safety lines

Literally made me sick to my stomach watching the video...No way I could ever do that.

these videos make me sick for real.  all the crazy russians on bridges and old iron workers, crazy tower climbers, window washers on skyscrapers.  all these people are crazy, but the russians are the craziest because they aren't even getting paid to do it!

I used to have no issues with heights/climbing/etc., until I took a descent fall.  Now my legs will tremble if I get into any type of scissor lift or anything like that, funny how something small changes your perspective. 

 

It doesn't stop me from getting in the lift or anything like that but my feet feel like they are in concrete boots when moving around.

"Hey,  did you get hit by any of that yellow rain earlier today?"

Russians will take a chance because they don't care if they die and if you lived in their country you might feel the same
