Skunk Repellent

Featured Replies

So I decided to do something to both keep my cabin fever and the bait monkey at bay, for now at least.

I'm making up my own version of a 'panic box' from my existing tackle, skunk repellent Papa style.

Mostly downsized versions of my confidence baits along with some items from my walleye and crappie tackle that continually produce bass Here is what I've put together so far:

Zara Puppies, 2in. Lazy Ike's, Mepps squirrel tails, RoadRunners, #5 Rapalas, crappie cranks, 1/8oz Chatterbaits-spinnerbaits-hair jigs, split shot, slip bobbers, assorted hooks and of course French Fry worms.

I may need to purchase a few items, but what would you add from your existing tackle?

A small popper, when I say small I mean not a fly bug, but probably 1/2 the size of a Rebel Pop'r. Those things will get hit from bluegill as well as small bass, and they're a lot of fun to use when you know there's bream hanging around but the bass won't bite.

Depending on the water I'd be on, maybe a 2" Little Cleo or Silver Minnow

Skunk repellant? I've never found one for me. Skunk

days happen from time to time no matter what.

Only sure-proof thing I can think of is TNT

Or an electro-fishing boat like the DNR uses to check

health of a water ecosystem.

some panther martins

Between Crappie jigs, roadrunners, and the tiny rapala countdown minnows, I can usually boat some kind of fish, lol.. I really don't have a panic box though...

live 2" minnows

I've found they don't fair well if left in th box. They do, however, become excellent catfish bait.

Our Wally Worlds have some 3/16 oz Strike King spinner baits.

Sweet! ;)

Rooster Tails

Here's what's in my panic box:

2 and 3 inch senkos (or knock offs)

Norman Crappie Crankbait

BPS Tender Tubes

HD Trout Jerkbait

Zoom Dead Ringer

How about a beetle spin?

I actually just started doing this as well. So far I have quite a few hair jigs.  Then I put in a roostertail and a few road runners.  I am also not too sure about what else I will put in it.  Maybe a couple of those little Rebel Crawdad crankbaits, Also a few of the Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbaits.

I leave my panic box at home, and use what I use. Sometimes it's the suck box, other times it's a boom box. But never a panic box. Panic is not going to win anything.

That's why I'm calling mine skunk repellent.  I thought about callin it MARx (mobile angling prescription box), but asking one of my co-anglers to hand me Mark's box may get me some quisical looks.

I've added a couple of Pond Magic and Beetle Spinners and I'll be picking up some small stick worms before ice-out.

Yamamoto has a 3" crappie swimming senko that may be good for your Skunk Repellent box.  You may also want to put in some Ned rig stuff. Z-Man has a 2 and 3/4" bait made for the ned rig that may also be good for ya.

Same, I don't subscribe to this "panic box" theory. If what I usually use when the bites tuff isn't working, then it is what it is, that's fishing.

I call my panic box , terminal tackle . Lots of jigheads different styles and wights ,sinkers, toothpicks , wire , bobber stops, suspend dots , barrel swivels, keepers , DOA pinch weights... If Im not catching fish , I try to figure out what I want a lure to do then make it happen.  I dont think I've been skunked in ten years . But I usually fish on good days in good spots.

Ned rig.  When the bite gets slow, cast one of those out.  They are great for beginners too.  Very easy to use and catches everything!

My panic box just has beer in it.  When I start to panic, I just pop one open and relax for a minute to remind myself that even just floating there is pretty darn nice.
