I'm looking for a high quality spinning rod. Pretty much set on a Lew's reel, just don't know where to go for rods. I'm used to micro guide on my casting rods, how good are they on spinning rods? Prefer cork handles.

What is your price range?

My main baitcaster is working at $250. I've got $100 in Veritas rod and $137 in Lew's BB1. The Lew's reel will run me around the same as the BB1. I'd ove to find a rod around $100-$150.

A size 4.5 guide works very well on a spinning rod. The more finesse the rod, the greater the advantage of "micro" guides. On a $100 rod you won't likely get the weight savings of titanium, but you can find them with Micro guides or "ring-less" guides to save significant weight. 

Fenwick HMG... in your price range and a full cork handle (which I prefer also)

The HMG is a nice rod and it has a lot of sensitivity for a rod in that price range, it is certainly worth a look. It uses that rubberized compressed cork so you got good grip while still having the feel of cork and no filler to fall out but it isn't real cork so it may be an issue.

Ok, let me ask again. Price aside, and don't jump to Megabass, what rod should I get?

Well, how 'bout waiting a few weeks, save a few more bucks and look at reviews on the new G. Loomis E6X Series.

If these are the hottest rods on the planet wouldn't it be fun to be the first guy on the block to own one? I have one

God they're expensive. But, I'd like to have a good rod for the rare occasion I use it.

The St. Croix Legend Tournaments with the XF action is where it's at. They've got a modified micro guide system and are just overall sweet rods! You wouldn't be disappointed.

Would the Team Lew's Gold Spin match well with it?

The LTB rods are awesome, but are above your price range. I think you would be extremely happy with a St. Croix Avid spinning rod. Solid reliable rods that many members here use and enjoy.

St. Croix Avid would get my vote and the price not to far off.

Skip coffee for a couple weeks & either pick up a new Loomis E6X or a proven Avid rod..

Avid would be a good choice.

But for the money I bought the Fenwick Aetos and couldn't be happier

The 7' medium power fast action avid is a great all around spinning rod!

St. Croix Avid.

It depends on the intended use, lure weight parameters, whether a fore grip is desired, balance if important, xf or fast or mf tip.  I could think of a few different rods, each a bit different, it's not 1 size fits all.

Everyone seems to like micro guide rods.  I tried one in spinning and hated it.  I felt it really hurt casting distance.  No such problem with micro guides on b/c rods.

 

I am a fan of Fenwick rods.  Depending on how much you are willing to spend, I'd look at the HMG, Elite Tech Bass or Aetos.

 

I only own one Hurricane Redbone, and it is a casting rod.  I feel it also offers good value for the money.  If I remember correctly this brand is also a favorite of SirSnookalot, and he fishes fresh and saltwater about 365 days a year.  I picked up my Redbone at his suggestion, and am very pleased with it so far.  I would definitely be willing to invest in another one.

I picked up a Fenwick Eagle in Dick's. Felt good, but anyone have any extra input? I'm looking to upgrade as well and I can't make my mind up.

I have a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth and I absolutely love it, but I don't think they make these anymore,

Was in Gander Mountain yesterday for their pizz poor sales, but I did put my hands on a Shimano Clarus MH spinning and it felt light as a feather.  Marked down to 59.99.   I almost bought it.   Just a thought if you have a Gander Mountain in the area.
