Just wondering what yalls favorite lure is for windy conditions. If you could only have one.

I had some pretty strong gusts in my neck of the woods today. I started throwing a Cavitron buzzbait and proceeded to nail them. I caught more with it today than I did all of last year. I had a lot of fun. Regained my confidence in buzzbaits. Two 3 pounders to boot!!

What about you guys?

Anything that won't cause a lovely backlash. Lipless cranks are usually my go to. That or spooks.

Cranks and jigs

Anything with a blade. Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, blade baits, tail spins and road runners with the willow blade just to name some. I've been known to remove the rear treble on a shallow crank and add a willow blade and swivel, but keep that one secret as the guys at my club haven't figured that one out yet.

Spinnerbait

As stated above...anything with a blade. Since the water is already being churned and disturbed by the wind: you need a bait that goes over and above that level of disturbance and cuts through to get the attention of the fish..

My favorite would have to be a spinnerbait. 

Fish for a reaction bite. I love the wind with cranks shallow or deep. Cast low and at an angle into the wind. Get on the windy bank and work it You can get close to the bank and angle cast out. Find there depth and keep at it. That can make for a good day. Boat control can be an issue but the wind will mask your nose.

Spinnerbait.

Most lures benefit from a windblown surface, which obscures flaws in delivery.

But one I really like is a 3/4 oz Johnson weedless spoon with a Kalin grub trailer

cotton cordell crazy shad double prop topwater.....or a Bladed swim jig with a speed worm as a trailer.

X2, spinnerbaits get too difficult to cast in heavy wind.

Everyone keeps saying spinnerbait. I very rarely throw spinnerbaits. Not a lot of confidence. I guess I'll have to try one out next time its windy.

Depends on the water, dirty water I would toss a spinnerbait. Clear water I let the boat drift over shallow cover and cast either a tube or square bill downwind. Lots of success with this.

This has happened a lot to me the last couple of years where 2 to 3 foot waves have become the norm. Even with a 24 volt trolling motor the back of my aluminum boat is to light and sits to high to keep the thing tracking well enough around the shallow cover to fish it that way so that is why I am stuck drifting.
