I'm not the most versatile person when it comes to a spinnerbait. I dont ever slow roll them or fish them deep. I pretty much just cast them at or past my target and burn them into it making it deflect off of something. If it's really windy I'll throw them towards windblown banks. This is about the only time I throw spinnerbaits anymore. They have pretty much been replaced with a swimjig and a chatterbait.

When I do throw one it is a war eagle 3/8 oz double willow in blue herring.

I like 1\4 to 3\8 on a M to MH rod. I fish them anytime I want to catch fish in or around cover and grass. Also good in streams and rivers.

I  use a 6.5 foot medium action casting combo but a lot of lengths work just fine.I think I could go back to a 5.5 foot rod and perform even better when it comes to accurately tossing baits short distances. The lakes i fish get hammered with spinnerbaits and the bite usually just dies in late spring even though cranks are still catching them. Then I go with smaller blades and less visible colors to still catch fish . I try to make the lure invisible . I also like to throw a modified beetle spin  " jig hook , spring bait keeper , small paddletail worm , and spinner " rigged weedless to get the bait deep in the snags . Those small blades   work well and will continue putting fish in the boat  all year.

I use a 6'9" MH fast action rod with 15lb pline cxx.

War eagle, pepper custom baits, and strike king are the brands I use, with the tandom blades (Colorado/willow) being my favorite.

Favorite weights are 3/8 and 1/2 oz.

I cast in and around cover, sparse pads, wood, docks, along side and above weed.

Welcome to the forum. There are numerous answers to the questions you ask, the answers depend on the person you're asking.

If you are looking for a general answer, the size of the bait used should be determined first by the equipment you're using. Stay within the recommended weight of the rod and you should be okay. The brand and style of bait is up to you.

Spinnerbaits can and are used almost anytime, with the general exception being cold water and bright, calm days.

most popular size is probably 1/2oz, with big willow and small colorado blade.

rod depends on what kind of spinnerbait you fish, and where you fish it. If you fish small spinnerbaits (1/8~3/8oz) shallow, medium light/medium power works well. If you fish big 3/4~1oz spinnerbaits deep, then use a medium heavy/heavy rod. Moderate fast or fast taper is usually used.

 

You can fish them anywhere.

I echo all the above and submit that I like 3/8-1/2oz war eagle or Hildebrandt tandem in white/clear/ shad type color.

Occasionally ill pull out the ol 3/4oz Hildy and slow roll around riprap. ...

i use mostly war eagle and some customs. 3/8-1/2oz. love the dbl colorado blades and the tandems. right now using a 6'6 mh/f shimano crucial but in the market for a rod a little longer

I mostly use 1/4 and 1/2 Strike King and BPS spinnerbaits. I fish them on a MH rod around any kind of cover I can reach.

I had a question, throwing a paddletail swimbait onto a spinnerbait. Is that good or bad? Would that work?

you can throw any soft plastic onto a spinnerbait. paddletails, grubs, worms, craws, anything.

Medium Heavy rod 7'. 6.5' if you want more accurate casts. 3/8oz most common size.

What I do is buy a few of the brand I want in all the weights and then I have spare blades and skirts so I can have pretty much unlimited possibilities without buying a million individual spinnerbaits.

Fish them on a MHF baitcaster and 12 lb fluorocarbon, Seaguar AbrazX.

 

This is a universal lure that may be used in almost any situation. I generally fish spinnerbaits in shallow

water <8', especially along grass lines and in stump fields.

 

 

Strike king makes great spinnerbaits,For the rod I use a powell 705 crankbait with a diawa tatula Type-R 6:4-1 and 10lb mono.

I like to use them any time of the year, That's the good thing about living in Cali

The older Booyah spinnerbaits are my favorite.  My rod and reel of choice are, G. Loomis 783 GLX and Shimano Core.
