Deflate-Gate!

I don't really care either way and highly doubt the balls themselves played a role in absolute slaughter they put on the colts but still...this will be an entertaining next couple weeks.

"Based on the evidence, we also have concluded that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of [Jim] McNally and [John] Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls," the report said."

Coming from someone who has spent much of his life steering clear of absolutes in my language, I must say that Tom Wells (investigator) is my new hero.

The fortunate aspect in all of this is that neither the Court of Public Opinion nor the crazy Media has any actual bearing on how well any team actually performs on the playing field, unless the players let it.

As a Patriots fan, I'm very glad they did not.

Colts fan here....  With that said, not a fan of the Patriots but the outcome of the game in question should not be brought up in the discussion of deflate-gate.   The Patriots were the superior team that day.  Colts fans and the Indy media are not crying over the loss.  What I think upsets people the most is that if they did cheat (knowingly), they didn't have to.  It's just a matter of integrity.  When Dungy was here, Colts fans held the team in such high regard, both morally and ethically, that we expect that out of other teams, especially our biggest rivalry, the Patriots.

It will be good to hear the results of the investigation, no matter the outcome, and move on.  I, for one, am ready for it to be over with.

The NFL needs to rule & get it over with IMO, clearly something occurred. It's sorta a moot point at this stage.. I watched the game, The pats actually played better and scored better with the properly inflated footballs in the 2nd half.. I'm not sure on the ethics, but there are far worse issues the nfl could & should focus on..

  • Super User

I agree there are more important issues that need addressing. With that said, the Pats have a history that continues to bring their character into question. The NFL needs to end this and send a very clear message to the Pats and every other team that no one is above the rules.

it's not the issue of the colts game it is the issue of it being suspected the previous game and the colts game earlier in the season, both of which were much closer.  It also goes to show that they cheat, plain and simple and nothing will stop them from trying to cheat and since the league doesn't really care, they will keep taking their slaps on the wrist and move forward....sad really that a guy like belicheat has zero integrity for the sport.

Imagine the horror of a professional sports team caught not playing by the rules.  I don't think this has ever happened in recorded history, and there should be punishment meted out equal to the crime.

The Patriots should be banished from the NFL and forced to compete against other teams that are guilty of such activities.

Don't think for a moment this was an isolated incident.  This is just the one where they got caught.

This calls into question their entire season.

Unfortunately, you can't put all the blame on the Pats.  The NFL is notoriously bad about enforcing it's own rules and selectively applying them ad hoc.  It's no surprise teams with no integrity or values are taking advantage of the situation.

Probably everyone on the team shared some knowledge of the "cheat". It's what people do in most competitions -- but it's still un-sportsmanship and cannot be allowed. Rules are there for a reason. Once found out and properly inflated balls were used in the second half Brady had better stats than in the first half. So fine the team a hefty $$$ fine and move on.

I agree and I heard on Mike & Mike this morning that the Colts emailed the league a day or two before the game under the suspicion that this might be happening and they still did nothing.  That is what concerns me.  And don't think for a minute that if the Patriots lost the Super Bowl that this wouldn't have come out immediately after but instead, they wait till after the draft so any repercussions are for next season's draft.  Although, I have heard, again on various sports radio, that there is talk of a lengthy suspension for Brady.  Of course, that would just give him more time to review the walkthroughs of all the teams on the remainder of the schedule (that one is for you A-Jay)  :)

It's funny - there was No Mention At All - regarding this issue in the 3 Games to Glory IV [ 3 DVD Blu-ray set] which depicts the New England Patriots magical 2014 Super Bowl run.

How can that be ?

When you are on top, people will ALWAYS look for a reason to bring you down. Does any one care if Jacksonville did this last year? Of course not, they suck so no one would care. Just like when pitchers were scuffing the ball. No one knows if the sorry pitchers were doing it, just the good ones.

So.....that's quite the deflection.  It's ok to cheat because everyone hates us and is going to accuse us of it anyway?  Or...what?  Is the point that we find cheaters because successful ones get called on it?  What difference does it make if there's a motivation to 'bring them down'?  Doesn't lessen the offense.  Just allows it to be brought into the light.  I'm sure the Jags continue to suck intentionally so that nobody will catch them cheating.

Jerry Rice used stick em on his gloves. He probably shouldn't be in the hall of fame because without that he most certainly wouldn't have been half the receiver he was.
