Give me your preference for a wide gap fluke hook...

Gammy's.  I have been alternating between g-lock and skip gap.  I'd say they're pretty equal.  I don't put much stock in the need for an offset, but if you do, the G-Lock has a slight offset

A Skip Gap style hook is what you need.

(If I knew how to post pictures on this thing I'd do it for you)

Tell me the advantage that the extra bend of the skip-gap gives.  Just viewing a picture of it I wonder if the bend lessens some of the gap?  I'm trying to improve hook ups on smaller bass (<14").  I'm using a Gamakatsu 4/0 superline wide gap with a 4" Bass Assassin fluke.  The smaller bass are killing the bait, but my hook up rate sucks.  Larger than 14" doesn't present a problem.  I'm considering a weightless 4" tube that would crumple easier when bitten...

Mustad grip pin is what I use. Can't wait for the light wire version to come out.

The lower bend V of the skip gap holds the fluke, or any soft plastic for that matter, tighter and straighter.

It really helps..You don't lose any of the hooks gap because of it either.

I use a 4/0 or 5/0 for tubes, 4/0 senkos and 3/0 for flukes.

No hook up problems at all

As I understand it, they were designed to be used for skipping as very soft plastics have a tendency to come loose off a regular off set hook.

The absolute best fluke hook I have found is the Owner twist lock light, I use the 2/0 for the 4" fluke jr. and the 4/0 for the 5" version. I actually use a different fluke bait but I have used the zoom super fluke as well with these hooks. I fish them on medium power spinning tackle most of the time. If I'm throwing the flukes in heavy cover I use the Owner twist lock 3X, same hook with more beef that I rig on 17lb copoly with a MH casting rod. I have used EWG style hooks and the bait would always find a way to slide down the shank, then I found some J-style worm hooks with a wide gap that I used and liked, the Trokar TK-100 HD worm hook was fantastic, or so I thought. Then my friend told me to try the Owner twist lock light hooks, they were developed in part, to be used with the Senko, so giving them a shot couldn't hurt, and now that is all I use, the hook up and landing percentage is close to perfect.

DOA lazer sharp long neck wide gap. They have them in a 3.5/0 size perfect for flukes. I just saw VMC will be coming out with a similar long neck ewg.

I use a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG regular hook for 5" soft jerkbaits, and it works great. My hookup rate is very good.

I just use Owner J or Owner J-Light hooks for my Ketiech Shad Impacts.

For super flukes I use a 5/0 gamakatsu superline EWG

You might try using the regular wire hooks instead of the superline version. My favorite is the owner riggin hoog or gammy ewg

Gama 4/0 EWG period. Best hook ever made. Equally as important are your line and your rod. But I can still cross their eyes with heavy mono using this hook. I hooked a pig through tissue so hard the other night it took me probably 5 min to get it out. I cut the line and pushed it thru the jaw. I had that thing hooked 6 ways to Sunday on a single hook. I kept having to dip the fish in the water to get it some oxygen.

I agree with this 100%.

best fluke hook I have found is the Owner twist lock light...    If I'm throwing the flukes in heavy cover I use the Owner twist lock 3X

 

Is there as much gap in the twist-lock light as there is in the twist-lock XXX?

Yes!  I've had the same Owner twistlock light keel weighted 4/0 hook on my Kistler KLX medium spinning combo since I got it this spring and I may not ever take this hook off ever again   Fluke, stick baits, craws, small swimbaits, etc. all work great for me on this hook.

If you use a screw lock hook and stick a piece of toothpick or paperclip through the bait and the screw it is never piling out. Just a little tip if your having trouble keeping the screw in the nose of a bait.

The skip gap hook for me with flukes, is a little lite and will bend often, but hasn't hurt me yet. I like the lite skip gap hook in the z-man jerk shad, when I want the shad to float.

I've heard people use 3/0-5/0 so I settled right in the middle with a 4/0 hooks. I personally love gamakatsu ewg's and have no problems with hookups. the only time I'll miss a bass is if it's my fault or its really small.

bend often ?? that hook bends like it's made of plastic !!!

Regular 3/o offset Worm hooks work very well for me. I hardly use ewg on anything no need for ewg for flukes or anything that has a split belly
