What are you guys using? Is there a difference between line and leader line?

I just started using braid a month or so ago so this is new to me. One thing I can tell you is I do not like big knots so I want to down size to a 12# leader with 40# or 50# braid.

I usually just use a FC Sniper or Shooter leader

 

If you don't want a big bulky knot I recommend using a knot that isn't very bulky such as an alberto, FG, ect

Fluorocarbon leader material is quite different from regular fluoro line in my experience.  It's harder and stiffer, probably not what you'd want for a long leader that reached up to your reel.  But it is a lot more durable.  It seems to be more expensive also.  I use it for saltwater fishing but go with regular fluoro line for freshwater leaders.

Regular filler spools do just fine. FC Sniper is good stuff. You could probably get away with 14 lb sniper, which has a thinner diameter when compared to others.

 

Also, 14 lb sniper is incredibly strong. I have gotten hung up with it once and have been unable to break off with my bare hands. I had to resort to the wrapping the line around the branch tactic, like I do with braided lines.

I'm not doing any salt water fishing. So I'm more apt to try the sniper line. 14 would be good to boot.

I like the leader about 6 feet now. When I started with braid I thought 18"s would be fine. It isn't. Those knots are a pain in the butt.

Since I've been using braid, (about a week and a half) I've just been using Berkley Big Game. Working fine so far.

I use sniper 14lb as leader material. I like it better than anything else ive used. I usually make it long enough to reach my reel

This season I've been using Lake Forks Parallelium FluoroHybrid FH 14#, 20# & 32# depending on what I'm fishing for and how I'm fishing...I like it quite a bit.

Leader line is more wiry and more abrasion-resistant than standard line, and is also available in straight lengths.

Provided it's only used as a leader, the strong memory of leader line is an asset rather than a negative.

Unless you're already convinced you need a leader, give straight braid a try, you may never look back (one less knot).

For both freshwater and inshore fishing I cut my leaders from P-line Floroclear and Big game.  I do use real leader offshore.  In all 3 venues I have given F/C leaders, I saw no benefit over mono leaders.

Yes, that is definitely the consensus opinion.

Although most mid-Florida lakes are dingy, we have our share of gin-clear waters, for instance:

Lake Elbert, Lake Winterset and Lake Easy. When the fishing is slow in these clear water gems,

the solution will usually come from changes in delivery (depth, cadence, lure type, speed, size ~ ~ ~).

Tying a leader to my braided mainline is an option that no longer enters my mind.

It's not like I haven't been there, and done that

PLine CXX makes an excellent leader.

I've used CX, no problems at all but.. I'd like to find a thinner diameter line with the same test rating. Sniper is looking good.
