Boat Pounding And Rock Tossers ?

Recommended Posts

I have seen people fishing that will clunk there pole down or stomp there feet in there boat while fishing...

Or others that are on shore throwing rocks into the water ... :dazed-7:

When I confront them about there actions most have said it was to spook the fish out of there holes !?

What have you seen or whats your opinion of this ? :Idontknow:

I can't say that I've ever encountered that, but a good defense would be

to make sure that 'their' holes and 'your' holes are different places.

Spooking the fish out of their "Holes" may have merit as a solid angling tactic.

Especially if one could control what they did after they departed said "Hole".

Otherwise, presenting a bait directly to or in very close proximity to these magic fish holes, may be met with the desired results.

btw - I think I heard that KVD is coming out with a Red Eye Sexy Fish Hole Bait at next year's iCast.

Good solid advice. The last thing you'd want is someone slinging rocks into your hole.

Around here, in the days before most people owned trolling motors and a fishing boat was a 12' jon, old timers used to "circle stumps" with minnows and cane poles with the motor running in reverse.  They claimed the noise attracted crappie. I've seen no evidence that it works. But as a kid we used to sometimes fish a spot in our pontoon with the motor running and if they bit, we would turn it off and throw out a cinder block anchor. I imagine they were just biting so well nothing would stop it.

Since then I am as quiet as can be. But sometimes nothing would stop a fish from biting. Sometimes nothing can pry its mouth open.

Some of the old timers around here used to drag their anchors or some other hunk of junk tied to there boat through the weeds to stir them up, dirty the water, and excite the baitfish, thereby, turning on the resident pike and bass....seems foolish to me, but they claimed it worked. I won't be doing it anytime soon.

Some think throwing stuff in the water excites the fish and gets them to bite.

I heard that one of the striper guides on Smith Mountain Lake slams a broomstick on the side of his boat because "Only the little ones get spooked by it"

Throwing stuff never helped my golf game either.

I can see it working on unpressured fish or fish that live in a noisy environment anyway. I just know if I drop something in the floor of a jon boat , I'm probably not going to be catching a nice fish soon . If fish identify noise with a feeding opportunity then it will work. I have observed that heavy boat and barge traffic on the Mississippi river gets the bass active .

The rock thing only bothers me when I'm fishing from shore. I tell them to do it somewhere else, or I leave.

All these good ideas about waking up the fishes -

I think I'm going to try taking my anchor by the line and swinging it wildly over my head.

Once I get some serious momentum going ~ I'm going launch that sucker out there about 50 ft or so.

That ought to wake those little buggers right up.

I lose a lot of anchors doing that!   :angry7:

Mostly in the trees.

Maybe Hydrowave or Livingston should come out with the "rock chunk" sound, programmable along with "baitfish" and "crawfish." In fact, I bet that would really help Randy Howell win another classic..... :eyebrows:

I don't believe in most of that stuff, However if you dip your lures in spunk water ( in the top of an old stump), and do not allow bananas in the boat you will catch more fish.

Top of an Old Log . . . where does the "spunk" come from and do you think Bobby could add it to Megastrike ? ? ?
