Recommended Replacement Treble Hooks?

Featured Replies

My hardbaits need replacement trebles and I'm looking to make a bulk buy. What do you use?

Also any advice on style- long vs short shank, round vs angled bend, etc.

Mustad Triple Grip

I use Mustad or VMC round bends mostly. They are inexpensive and are good hooks. The only time I use something different is on some baits the hook hangers are to close and short shank hooks are needed to keep   from tangling on themselves , but they are  expensive .

Eagle Claw has put out some really good short shank triple grips lately but the only place I can find them is Walmart oddly enough. They don't come in a bulk pack but are very reasonably priced at around $4.50 for a 12 pack.

Have you found a size that you like for jerkbaits, like a 100 sized LC Pointer.

I love these hooks but I haven't found a size that doesn't hinder the suspension of Jerkbaits.

If you go on to the lucky craft usa site, you can find a list of what hooks are on each bait.

Pointer 100SP has two size 5s.

Apparently the gamakatsu size 5s are heavier than the Daichi size 5s (I weighed them).

Slender pointer 112MRs have the same size 5s (all three).

I bought a bunch of lucky craft size 5 hooks from Ebay- those are my two favorite jerkbaits.

P.S. Funny thing is my slender pointers like to sink in warmer water (but not the 100SP, go figure), so I currently have some size 6 gammys on one of them. Will switch back as and when needed.

I tend to stick to OE type & size hooks where bait suspension is a concern - and a LC Pointer definitely falls into that category.

The standard Gamakatsu Round Bend Treble Hooks get the nod here for me.

Another one for the Mustad KVD hooks.  Also because of the short shank you can upsize to a larger hook without worrying about getting the trebles tangled up.

the Owner ST-36 hooks are good but the ST-41's are hands down the best treble hooks on the market , strong and scary sharp ............

No consensus will be reached. Split about 30-30-30-10 between mustad Gama owner and vmc respectively.

Yep, and I don't think you can buy any of them in bulk.

Yea, could not find bulk purchases. I got 4 11-pks- sizes 1,2,4,6- of Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hooks. Mostly going on plugs and crankbaits. Did I do OK?

I have been losing a LOT of fish lately so I hope this is the solution.

to me ,the ST-36's are light wire , the 2X ST-41's are heavy wire ....

btw, the super needle points are good but the cutting point hooks are scary sharp ...

Not sure what you paid but I just bought the same hooks on Amazon for around $6 for an 11 pack. They are awesome!

+1 for mustard kvd short shank

I have used the Mustad KVDs now for about 10 trips. Losing fewer fish but still losing a few, I have noticed mostly on the smaller hooks.

I may try the Gamas and Owners for the heck of it.
