Best Spinning Reel

Featured Replies

I am looking for my dad a new spinning reel. My budget is $100. I Have been looking at the Abu Garcia orra and the Blue Max. I was also looking at a Pflueger Trion and the Pflueger Purist. Which one is the best all around reel for freshwater and saltwater. What rod should I pair this with.

At that price, id get a shimano symetre. One of the best reels i own and i have more expensive ones

Diawa Revros all the way, they are as smooth as a Stradic in my opinion. Drag is beyond smooth too. They also look pretty cool. Also the $50 price point is very appealing.

Another vote for the Shimano Symetre here.

 Me, too!

What about a gander mountain elite series I have heard they are good reels.

Symetre or Sahara. Also look at a Pflueger President, they are solid reels.

you can get a Daiwa lexa for a little more than $100 on amazon. They are outstanding, especially if you swap the drag and line roller bushings out with bearings. Of course that's a little more money still, but on down the road if you decide to you can and you'll have an ultra smooth, reliable reel with the smoothest running drag possible in a reel less than $250

I have two or three Shimano Sedonas, which I like, but are feeling a little "loose" after a season of hard use.  So this spring, I bought a Symetre.  I have an older Aero Symetre which has been an outstanding reel.  Well, after less than a season, my new Symetre is getting stuck or hung up when I pause a retrieve.  I'm sure it will be an easy fix, but it made me wonder about the quality...

I'll be trying one of the highly-regarded Pfluegers next.

Tight lines,

Bob

OKUMA Epixor way under $100 there at fish USA for $60. Ten ball bearings.

Nothing new. Symetres and saharas have had this issue for many years, and shimano still ignores the problem.

A trion would do ya good and u can snag 3 for about 110$ for all

You have one?

To the OP, I would suggest a Pluefger. They are the "dependable" reels in my mind. Personally, daiwa would be the "flashy" reel with all the new tech, and shimano would be the "old faithful" reel. I would recommend any of the Supreme line, especially the MGX.

Also, another decent option is a okuma.

The Plueger President reel is the best bang for the buck on the market.

Hands down, one of the best spinning reels on the market (on sale or full price) is on sale right now in Bargain Cave on Cabela's site. Abu Revo SX $89. Or for a few extra pennies you can get a Strdic FJ for $129. Also a Daiwa Lexa spinning reel in there for $89.88

Best spinner under $100 for fresh and salt water is the Penn Conflict 2500. It's only on one site for $99. Xtreme Fishing Outfitters.

Also, Gander mountain Elite GSX rod on sale for $79. Excellent rod for that money.

Any double duty reel, buy the salt water version.  Prices and specs are about the same, difference anti corrosion finish and bearings.  An important feature for me is the knob, I like paddes andd t ees, don't care for  small or round.

Im a fan of the Mitchell pros.

You mentioned it was for your fad and you were looking at the any orra a have an sx20 and sx30 I love then both quality reels that have had no problem pulling in 6lb lmb as well 20# strippers. I would go with the abu

Pfluegar President is the best spinning reel under $100 IMO. Symetres are nice, until they get wet (a bit of a problem with a fishing reel), then they start to bind and stick badly. I liked the Supremes, but then both had problems (drag tightening on it's own and stripped gears). I have an Orra 20 now that gets knots as bad as any spinning reel I've ever seen regardless of bait fish or line used. The 4 Presidents I have aren't flashy, but there's a reason they're so popular. They're a workhorse reel that deals with the use and abuse anglers put them through and keep on working.

Hi Guys! I am going to be buying me a new spinning reel. I was looking at an Abu Garcia Orra, a Pflueger Trion GX7, and a Gander Mountain Elite Series. It will be mostly used for bass but some catfishing and saltwater fishing will be done with it also. What will be the best one for what I want to use it for. Also what is the best rod for the Gander Mountain Elite. I would like to keep the whole combo under $100 but i could spend a little more. Should i buy the combo of the other two or buy different rods for them also.

Best spinning reel under 60$= Pluefger President

Best spinning reel under 100$= Pluefger Supreme

You want two spinning combos right? If so, be prepared to shell out under 200$ for both combos.

Yes. I will be buying one for me and one for my dad.

i would opt for the trion out of those three.  i have two now and they are as smooth as you'd hope for a budget reel.  i have a supreme mgx and a patriarch as well and honestly my opinion is the trion gets the job done just the same as the 2 higher end models.

For me it's the OKUMA epixor at fishUSA I been using these for over a decade now.
