Favorite Spinning Reels

Featured Replies

I just scored some pretty good deals on 2 spinning rods and now need to get some reels to pair with the rods. Any suggestions of reels? I am looking at the Revo SX or possibly the STX... Any other suggestions of reels I should check out?

A Stradic, Stradic CI4, Supreme XT, or Patriarch Mag would be my picks in that price range. I've owned one newer Abu spinning reel (Orra), and it was awful.

Shimano Stradic CI4+ or the Shimano Stradic

I have a few cardinal SXs for my ice rods, and they're satisfactory. I also have a Team Lew's Pro SS that I snagged for $55, best spinning reel I have used, had it for about 6 months. My second reel is a Flooger Supreme XT, it's great, light, smooth and casts pretty well, I think I've had that one for almost 3 or 4 years now, in good shape, probably my #3 reel.

I love my shimano stradic c14 4000 fa

I love my new STX spinning reel. If you can, try an STX or a premier and compare it to a stradic. It seems like the majority in this forum choose the stradic and I'm sure there's good reason for that, but it's your purchase and you are the one that will be using it.

Stradics for me. I've got FI and FJ. The FJ is
just awesome when a fish is on. X-Ship!

My favorites are the shimano stradic ci4+ 2500. Hands down.

Old white Stradics, old gold Sustains, and Twinpower!!

I was going to buy a Stradic FK, the new one, but it doesn't have the "back reel" switch.  I got a Daiwa Ballistic EX instead and couldn't be happier with it.

Really?! That's a deal breaker for me. I'm one of those guys that would rather back reel than use the drag to play the fish and wouldn't feel comfortable without it.

Yeah, it was a deal breaker for me too.

Yeah if I would have realized that I wouldn't have bought one. That's one of reasons why I'll probably be selling it soon. Shimano said it eliminates an extra point of failure. I say it's just another way for them to lower the cost of production. The TT  review says "higher end angler won't care" lol.

I like the stradic fj, jdm certates and luvias, president's are good for the price. The old fuegos are awesome but hard to find.

I have two Pflueger Presidents, and I love them.

Stradic, Sustain, Sahara.....wait....these all start with "S" -- "S" for Shimano :)

Hard to beat the Pflueger line. I use the Supreme XT, little more pricey but has some upgrades from the President line.

For more years than I care to think about, I've been a fan of Shimano spinning reels. Two seasons ago I bought a Pflueger President. There is no comparison for the money. The President has outperformed the increasingly higher cost of the Shimanos time and time again. I just bought my 3rd. one and will never go back. Quality, reliability, cost effective approach to any fishing situation. JMO! :)

I've been wanting to try a ballistic ex, I love my certates and luvias.  I was thinking about selling my new stradic fk to buy some more fj's while I can still find them. Maybe I'll buy a ballistic ex instead.

I'm not a big spinning guy so I won't try to compare it to a Stradic, since I haven't used one.   That said, I do really enjoy the ex.

Check out the new Fuego spinning reel. I was looking at the ballistic, but picked up the new Fuego and really liked it.

I don't spend a ton of money on spinning reels.............hard for me to get excited about it when the $60 Pflueger President has done anything I have ever asked or wanted out of a spinning reel.
