What type of casting rod do you use for your Keitech Fat impact swimbaits?

Featured Replies

Just curious what rod length, action and power you all are using for your Keitech swimbaits? Thanks.

To me it's seems like you would want a more moderate action rod to give the fish a few seconds to get the hook. Does that make sense?

Medium Power, Fast Action, Soft Tip

I used them for the first time this year. My girlfriend had good success on a 7' medium power, fast action BPS Carbonlite. I used a 6' 10" medium heavy power, fast action Shimano Clarus. Both worked pretty well.

With the swing impact - and their EZ Shiner - I use a MH/F rod for the 5" size. A soft tip as stated before is also very helpful.

Personally I don't follow the theory of pulling the bait from a fish. Having tried sight fishing bedding bass and seeing first hand how fast they can inhale , move and spit a bait, I'm 100% convinced if a fish wants a bait you couldn't keep it from them if you tried. If you're getting short strikes change retrieve, color, size or some other variable. For baits like the swing impact stick with a fast action in a power appropriate for bait weight and cover. I fish them on a m/f spinning setup crawled just off the bottom.

I like where your head is at RW, this is the exact rod I use as well!!  The rod is new to me and I have only caught one bass with it (using a Keitech FAT Impact), but I caught a dozen walleyes in December with this rod and bait.  Performed flawlessly.

Avid 7' MHF, Dobyns 734 or 735 depending on the cover.

I throw almost exclusively the 4.8 Fat, usually with a 4/0 1/16-1/4oz swimbait hook.  That combo weighs .75+oz.

I ended up buying an 7' Avid X medium fast casting rod. I plan to fish it in open water and not in heavy weeds so I assume this set up will be sufficient.

If it's not it will be for something else. It's a win/win really.  I use a med or mh both fast action. Cover and what size/weight I'm using dictates the rod choice for me.

I use a St. Croix Avid 7' Med. F. I don't like a moderate action for anything that uses a single hook.
