Best lure retriever

Featured Replies

What's the best lure retriever or plug knocker?  Do they work on baits with single hooks like the ned rig very well?

I use the Bill Dance one and it works well. This one has a reel attachment instead of just the string like my one that kept getting tangled up. It should work on single hook baits but I just break off baits like that.

I've never need a lure retriever.

I might have wanted one to try if I was on my last one of that style/shape/color etc that was the hot ticket of the day and really didnt want to lose it for that reason. I usually try some of the methods Glen showed etc and if it doesnt come loose Ill straiten the hook. I don't throw $10+ baits out to fish so I don't get to upset if I lose a bait.

Got the one Lew's brought back. I had one before but somehow lost it. I have always got my crankbait with this one.

I use Big Ugly Knockers from ebay.  Worth their lead weight in gold.

I bought the Jewel Hound Dog

I carry both types of lure retrievers in my boat - the "hound dog" type and an extendable pole.  In different situations one will work better than the other.  They have paid for themselves many times over in saved cranks and other baits.

I like the telescoping type and yes they will work on single hooked baits.

I bought the Pocket Knockers off of TW just to try them out even though I felt they were just a marketing scheme. To my surprise they work extremely well for single hook baits and treble hook baits. The only time I have ever had a problem is if my bait was hung up in fishing line, but I don't really know of any retrievers that would help in that situation anyways.

Since I throw Megabass and LC baits into brush piles this thing paid for itself in about two hours.
