Needing a new tackle bag

Featured Replies

Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a very similar bag as the one AJ posted its Gander Mountains version of it. It holds 7 or 8 3700 boxes plus a lot more. I like it a lot if you on a boat or stationary on shore. But there is no way I'm carrying that monster

I carry a Okeechobee Fats Tackle Bag moving around. It holds 4 or 5 Plano 3700 style  boxes and is light enough to carry.

Enough room to store soft plastics in those bags?

how much tackle are you looking to carry?  Is this for a boat/bank/etc?

Boat only. Just need something to carry 5 boxes and 15 bags of baits. As it stands now my bag holds 4 boxes but I can force the 5th one in and I carry another bag for my plastics

Certainly, if you put in fewer than 8 boxes. I put 7 X 3700 boxes in mine and can cram about 15 bags of plastics in there with them.

I'll look into that. I try to take what I'll need for that day but I know one day I'm going to forget one of the bags

Yeah that's gonna be a no go

The Bass Pro backpacks actually aren't that bad, I wasn't a believer until i tried my roommates and I then picked one up, perfect for bank fishing.

I use the basspro shops backpack and love it.  It is a lot easier to carry fifty to sixty pounds of tackle on two shoulders rather than one.  I also sometimes use a giant tackle box from flambeo that I won in the infisherman master angler program.

I have both the plano guide series and cabelas bags and am really happy with them. The one must I have for me in a  boat bag is the hard bottom for those days when the carpet is soaked. I learned after previously having to dry out gear or having to set my bag on a rain jacket to keep the bottom dry after leaving the boat docked overnight. If you don't ever leave your boat docked overnight I guess this would be less of an issue.

I am often a non-boater/coangler on local club tournaments and have really liked taking along my Plano 3700 series bag. There is tons of room for bags of soft plastics and accessories, and it holds four 3700 boxes, has really tough materials and good zippers, both hand and shoulder straps, and a deep molded plastic waterproof base. It is stable on deck when the top is open (unless we're running) and everything is always easily accessible.

I really like the Okeechobee Fats bags. The large bag should easily handle what you are wanting to carry.

The Cabela's bags are really nice with lots of well thought out storage. I had a super mag and it held enough stuff that it was tough to carry when full (had a boat with no storage).

Get this:  https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-OKUMSTORAGE.html?from=basres

It is a tackle backpack. It's larger than it looks and has tons of storage. The back-bottom portion unzips and it can fit 4 standard tackle trays. It has a flat bottom and sits perfectly upright when you aren't wearing it. I can fit all my soft plastics, line, leader material, 4 tackle trays, pliers, fish grips, hooks, and a bait binder in mine. It is definitely worth a look.

Just google okuma backpack

I use a Engel 13qt. Dry box.  I fish a lot in the rain.  It has 4 rod holders, carries my electronics protected and more plano's and soft plastic binders than I need.  Costs the same as many tackle bags and never has a zipper that gives up the ghost.
