Here are a couple of non fishing fish photos, both taken in 1990 on a dive trip at Bloody Bay on Little Cayman.  Photos taken with Nikonos underwater camera on Kodak Ectachrome transparency film.

First is a scorpion fish, shot on a night dive:

This second one is a pair of juvenile spotted drums (they don't develop the spots until maturity).

Had a couple passengers on the boat today, I think they really enjoyed their ride along.

  • After a couple of years of being used to make the new movie "TOP GUN-2" this F-18 E  has just arrived @ our facility in Jacksonville Fl. for rework, fresh paint and being returned to the active fleet.

Very nice. Ektachrome gives a completely different colour feel to the digital picture we're used to seeing these days. Is that definately a scorpion fish, rather than a stonefish?

Yep, definitely a scorpion fish.  Stone fish are mainly a Pacific and Indian Ocean species as far as I've read.  They are related to scorpion fish, and to the lionfish (there are over 300 related species in the group).

Lionfish are also an eastern hemisphere species that unfortunately has been introduced into the Caribbean region (supposedly dumped by Florida aquarium hobbyists who got tired of them eating every other fish that they put in the tank).  With no natural controls on their voracious feeding habits, lionfish are having a negative effect on many reefs in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.  Fortunately people are discovering that they are great eating, a delicate, flaky white meat.  I know that the Bahamian island where we lived holds semiannual lionfish hunts, then a seaside feast afterwards.  Lionfish fillets will rival the best fish you've ever tasted.  Humans may end up being the best control over a problem that we caused in the first place.

This my only lionfish photo, one taken on a trip to the Philippines in 2008.  It is out of focus, but nothing I can do about that now.

Great stuff. Sounds like you've had an interesting life.

My dad, my little sister, and I with a days worth of channel cats caught on punch bait from a creek near where I grew up. Playing and fishing in the creeks is a large part of what got me hooked at such a young age.

Two for the day...

I miss this wonky, snotty little kit.  Tama Starclassic B/B.  Cymbals by Dream, Sabian, and Zildjian.  Low boy hardware by Gibralter.

My wife likes to buy organic peanut butter. The one she gets is about $10 a jar, which is still ridiculous. It also tastes like crap.

The $10 jars are just to the left.  40 oz. $9.49.  Obscene. The Jif brand 40 oz. jars are $4. This crap is just store brand.

which brings us to the more important question crunchy or creamy? I say creamy.

  • Super User

I like creamy Jif.  If I want peanuts in it, I put unsalted whole peanuts in the sammy.  More often though, I put potato chips in there.

JIF is good skippy is to sweet.

Skippy Superchunk for me, but I only do PB with jam (usually grape, and never jelly), and not that often.  Was never a PB junkie even as a kid.

Crunchy gets all stuck on your teeth, grape is good. What's really good is goobers.

I’m not a hunter but I thought this buck was pretty impressive. Caught it hanging out behind our shop. Neck like a tree trunk.

Creamy jif but only on rye bread. Not a big fan of jelly. I got a cousin who still eats peanut butter and maple syrup on bread. He also eats dog biscuits and shaves his underarm hair so.....
