I'm probably going to buy a BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series spinning rod, to match the casting rod I'm buying from my friend (he's letting it go for $80, tough to say no to that deal). I plan to use it for senkos, zoom flukes, and trick worms for the most part, maybe along with some smaller frogs (1/4 ounce or less) as well. I am wondering if I should get the medium or the medium heavy version of this rod, as well as the length. 

 

Length options are either 6'8" or 7'2" - I am leaning towards 6'8" for this purpose, but what would you choose?

Medium power is 4-12 pound line and 1/8 to 1/2 ounces of weight. 

Medium heavy power is 6-17 pound line and 1/4 to 5/8 ounces of weight.

Personally, for senkos and trick worms I prefer a medium power rod. I'd go with the 6'8" M, because it will also give you a tad more precision when casting. With the extra fast action, you'll get good hook sets, and a medium rod will still give you plenty of power. A Medium Heavy might be too much if you're fishing weightless. 

I'd go with the 6-8 Medium, too.

For yamamotos get a mh. For dingers go medium

I'd go with the Medium as well, I throw weightless soft plastics on a Medium/Fast 7'3" NV Black.

 

I use a different rod for each.

 

ML for weightless senkos, Flukes and light shake head.

M for Weighted stick baits and flukes

MH for bigger Shakey Heads.

 

I would say get a M if you are using one dedicated rod.

I think the answers depends of the type of cover you are fishing. Cover or no cover?

I use a ml for 4 inch worms trick worms weightless and standard flukes.  Of the two listed the 68mf would be my choice.

Spinning Rod get a Medium Fast or Extra Fast  It's pretty much an all around rod. You'll probably toss heavier baits with the Baitcaster

a med xf spinning rod would be my choice. flukes on BC with same specs. just personal preference. like side twitches on the light BC and up and down twitches and shakes on a spinning combo.

 

grab a MH if you are fishing cover.

 

 

All of my spinning rods are Cabelas Tournament ZX's dropshots, which are medium, 7'. They are really light but have the backbone to reel in any bass easily. Really impressed with them. $99, but always go on sale for $69, which is a steal.

Medium for sure.

I prefer longer rods for more casting distance. 

7'2" Medium Power/ Fast Action

 

For me a M/F rod for weightless senkos, light shaky heads, trick worms, etc.  Fishing those on a MH makes the rod feel like a broomstick to me.  The M rods load up much better.

 

I have a Tatula casting rod made for drop shotting/finesse type stuff that I've been using lately.

I use M/XF spinning rods ( I prefer a 6'8" -7') for 3", 4" + 5" baits weightless or on light wire hooked wacky jigs around lighter cover, outside deep grass lines, or under boat docks/over head cover in gin clear water. Typically with 10lb braid main line and a 6,8, or 10lb fluorocarbon leader.

 

I use MH/F casting rods (also 6'8-7') for 5" + 6" baits, weightless or on a heavy gauge hook wacky jig around heavier cover, in the grass, or under docks in dirty water and /or docks and laydowns with lots of grass or snag potential around, near, or under them. Usually with 20-30lb braid as my main line, and 12,15, or 17lb flouro leaders.

Looks like it's decided then - a 6'8" medium extra fast will be my new plastics rod

 

@d-camarena: I'll be fishing some spots with weeds, but that's about the extent of the cover I'm fishing. 

 

I will probably be sticking with 4" Yamamotos for my wacky fishing, then standard-sized trick worms and both super flukes and super fluke juniors. 

Reel will probably be a Pflueger Trion 35, spooled with 20# Jerry Brown braid and a rod's length of 10# fluorocarbon leader. 

Thats is perfect for what you need

All of my plastics are thrown on a 7' MH fast tip, but everything goes into a really dense grass bed(s).

I would go with a medium rod if you fish senkos weightless but you might want to consider medium heavy if you fish in weeds regularly. As for length, go as long as you feel comfortable with. I would keep it in the 6'6" to 7' range personally.

I would probably choose the 6'8" mh, but there is a lot of vegetation in some of the ponds that I fish.

I've got a new Tatula Elite AGS Ehrler rod which is MMH 1/8-1oz and it's been prefect for Senkos and the like. It's a 7fter which means a little more distance, but most of the time I'm making short casts and hitting next to cover. Great little rod.
