If you could live anywhere

I have no Idea. I certainly wouldn't miss the taxes in Crook County IL if I moved, but giving up the greatest food on the face of the earth would be extremely difficult

The food down your way is great...but at 13 years and counting away from it, I've found ways to adapt.

  1. I cook my own with ingredients Amazon delivers fast if I can't find them locally.
  2. We get down that way just often enough to enjoy the good food...and be reminded of all the reasons we don't want to go back:
    • The taxes you mention
    • The overall cost of living
    • High crime rates
    • Too many people
    • Traffic
    • Crappy fishing, relative to here.
    • Horrible hunting, relative to here

...and we didn't live as for into the area as you do.  No way I could deal with it now, but it's cool that there's lots of people who can.

It's not only ingredients. Chicago is the home of pizza, Italian beef, Chicago style hot dogs, Plenty of great food to be found in Greek town, Little Italy, Chinatown, Little Village, Korea town, Jew town, numerous 5 star steak houses and seafood restaurants and the likes. Taxes and cost of living are out of control. The high crime rates occur in certain neighborhoods and as long as you stay out of those neighborhoods, you have a fighting chance. Traffic is something I am accustomed to. The fishing may be less than stellar but, in addition to an IL license, I hold an annual Wisconsin license as well and spend plenty of time fishing Door County, SE and central Wisconsin. Also, no fishing seasons except for smallmouth on inland rivers. I can soft water fish from ice out to ice up. I don't hunt but a buddy of mine does and we make venison jerky annually for as far back as I can remember. While I'm not bragging about living in Crook County, I have learned how to adapt and overcome.

Will you send me a Chicago pizza? I've always wanted to try one.

Yep, I do miss the food.

We were down in St. Charles a couple weeks ago (the kid won a scholarship, got to attend the presentation and she got to help at a golf outing), had some real Italian food.  Glad we could fit it in, but also glad to head back north after a couple days.

Enjoy it, you're right about the best food in the world, IMO.

Only good Italian joint I know in St Charles is Francesca's. Is that where you went?

right where I'm at. 5 minutes to the St. Johns River, 5 minutes to the Indian River(salt). passed on a job offer a few years ago because it would have been over an hours drive to the nearest body of water to fish. when I win the lottery I'm staying put. but just gonna travel more to other bodies of water all over this country. lots of road trips.but this is my home.

Emphasis mine...that's really it, right there.

Sloanzp is a perfect example: He loves an area I don't like, and I'm really happy for him...he'd miss it if he left.  Different people like different things, thank God.

I've never understood people who live places like where I do...and try to convince others to move there...kinda defeats the purpose...

If you are talking about just one residence then anything east of Nashville to the Smoky Mountains.  Beautiful area, good weather, lots of high reservoirs and plenty of rivers chock full of fish.  Nashville has a great international airport and more nightlife than you can find anywhere outside of Vegas.  This is where we will retire in just a few short years.

As for winning the Powerball....well....cabin in Colorado for fall fly fishing and hunting, house on the Gulf side of Islamorada for winter salt fishing, big house in northern Michigan for spring and summer fishing, off-roading....

Canyon Lake in SoCal.

one hour to ocean, one hour to snow 20mins to Casino.  right between Los Angeles and San Diego. Disneyland, Seaworld and Universal Studio.

But before you move here, could you buy me a house in FL? ?

You'd have to stock up on flat bill hats and bro jerseys
