Just wondered how many guys and gals on here still might pitch tubes for largemouths.....i seem to have moved on to more creature baits for pitching but did break some out last week and did pretty good. I was using the Snack Daddy Elite Tubes. They are quad dipped so they are a little larger than most tubes as far as the thickness.

I used to catch alot of largemouth on tubes before things like senkos and beaver style baits and etc. etc.. etc.. came out but you're right, what's old will become new again

Yes, in my creature bag which includes a pack of lizards, a pack of craws, and a pack of tubes. The plan is to use the creature bag post spawn for bedded bass, but I used it last week when I couldn't get hits after fishing topwater, crank baits, and T-rigged worms.

I took out my tube box last week for the first time in years. Before I got pretty good at catching fish on a texas rigged craw I threw tubes quite frequently. Have not used one in quite some time. It was fun using this trusty lure even if I didn't catch them all that great. I really like the powerboat 3.5 inch tubes and the Smash Tubes from Havoc. 

Maybe it's nostalgia but I love tubes. Been using them for 30yrs now, I love watching them spin, glide, and fall. I feel like I have more imagination when fishing a tube vs anything else. 

Most of my bass fishing is smallmouth, but I do keep tubes around for pitching mats or throwing around docks when I am fishing largemouth.  They are ridiculously versatile still.

Yeah....i just like the fact that they are thicker than most tubes....

I still pitch the 4.5" Strike King Flippin' Tubes. My goto's are black/blue, watermelon red, green pumpkin, and most recently I found four original packs of the solid blue no flake. I like them around snaggy cover because there aren't any appendages to get tangled up in.

Ha. I've got some Snack Daddy baits floatin around.  Their tubes are super nice. 

 

I rarely flip tubes for largemouth but I plan on doing it a little more.

make that 3 I love Snack Daddy. The Elite tube is my go to smallmouth bait and I replaced all my senkos with Snack Sticks.

Love it almost as much as pitching jigs.  Tubes are an excellent topwater/swimbait follow up.

I do.  When the veggies are really thick  I will use a tube Texas rigged with a pretty heavy bullet weight. 

What hooks are you guys using to pitch tubes?  I have tried it a little but have yet to find a hook that stays weedless but also gives me a decent hookup ratio.

I use skip gap hooks.  These seem to work quite well with tubes.  I bought a few packs of the Gama Skip Gap hooks in various sizes (2/0,3/0,4/0) at Walmart this spring on clearance for $1/pack.  These hooks seem to work well weedless on tubes.  These hooks also seem to work well on baits like the Havoc Pit Boss.  I'm still experimenting with these hooks on other types of plastics.

 

You can fish it with or without a weight. The advantage of the skip gap hook if you decide to go with a tungsten weight in front of it, is that the tube can be replaced without retying vs. the weighted tube hook.

4/0 EWG. 4" tubes

I have used the Skip-Gap hooks for senkos and other thin plastics, but I have never gotten them to fit well with tubes.  I wanna say my issue was that the hook isn't "tall" enought to fit most tubes, assuming I want the extra bend to stick out past the bottom of the tube.  

 

But maybe I am doing it wrong, I will try to post a picture tonight of what I was trying.  

I bury the hook in the tube.  I probably miss a few fish because of it.  It keeps it weedless though.  I have considered using a flipping hook but...

I have bags and bags of the strike King tunes that i never used. Never got any confidence in them really. I use mostly beaver and craw baits now.

Trokar tube hooks.  I tried using regular EWG worm hooks and never like them.

I use a 4/0 Gamakatsu Skip Gap Hook. Love those hooks....I pitch everything with those....keeps the bait lined up and doesn't slip....unless you get a hold of a monster and then you don't care anyway.

Savage Gear 3D Goby Tube Monday morning. Sight fished it from under a bush right by the ramp, hadn't even put the trolling motor down yet.

I never stopped pitching them.
