Working to Stay Lean ~

I started going to the gym again in January. Been going everyday before work. It’s kinda turned me into a gym rat haha. Down 20lbs when I started I was 226 now I’m fluctuating been 204-208. Watching a bunch of you tube videos a lot of the Ryan Humiston stuff. Downloaded his SWOLE app and doing the FML program. Just finished week 4 yesterday starting week 5 tomorrow. It alternates low rep heavyweight weeks with high rep weeks.

There’s days in the program I definitely see why it’s called FML haha.

My abs look remarkably similar, but strangely they wanted some winter insulation about 15 years ago and I haven't seen them since.

I'll be in that good of shape when Colonel Sanders starts selling free weights.   Way to go AJay.

  • You are a great example for us all Ajay. "The longer we wait the harder it gets.  The first step is the hardest." I agree with you 100%   My son says he has abs and you Dad have flabs.

That's good to hear.

Consistent effective exercise & a continued healthy diet

is always a better choice than making useless dietary decisions, not exercising

and throwing your heath in the trash.

Hope you can keep it going for the rest of your life,

otherwise, you'll be right back where you started.

Remember we improve on our off days, not in the gym.

Also - Mr Humiston is admittedly on PEDs and is IMO,

a YT Clown, not a role model for longevity & good health.

I might not be of this earth then but I'd be interested

how that whole show is doing when he's my age.

Just eat right and consistently work hard.

You'll be better off in the long run.

And that's where we all hope to get to.

Good Luck and thanks for sharing.

Eating healthy is my biggest struggle I have cut back a lot of unhealthy habits mostly my energy drink consumption.

I’ve seen his videos about taking TRT. Only PED I suppose I take is pre work I take in morning before gym and creatine.

I work out M-F before work and take weekends off for rest. I try and get plenty of sleep only get a solid 8+ on Sunday and Monday nights though occasionally Friday nights if I can sleep in on Saturday but it’s tough even when I don’t set alarm to be up. Fiancé works 7-11 and our daughter wants to stay up and wait for mommy. I usually get power naps in though on couch till mommy gets home then I get to go to bed but I wake up at 0250 to go to the gym.

Workout Day 5 this morning.

Felt ready, willing and able.

I'm a bit over 8 weeks into this 5 Day split routine and it's been good.

Additionally I'm 4 weeks into a calorie restricted diet, and that's going OK as well.

Plan on keeping both of these going for a bit longer

and we'll see where it takes me.

64 is such a fun age.

Started week 5 of the program I’m doing it’s a high rep week.

Called for Slight incline dumbbell press 15, 15, 15, 30 reps did 15@ 40lbs 12@40 15@25lbs and 26@25lbs so fell short a few sets but went to failure.

incline barbell 20, 20, 30 did 20@75lbs 20@75 and 30@75

decline barbell 3 sets of 20 did 3 sets of 20@75lbs

Cable flys 15, 20, 30 did 15@30lbs, 20@30lbs 30@20lbs

Machine incline press 3 sets 20 reps each I ended up with 10@72lbs 12@72 9@72 I was pretty smoked by this block.

Then was calf’s single leg smith machine calf raises. 4 sets of 20 I did 20@95lbs 20@75 3 times

felt great the I feel the high rep weeks more being so high rep I can really push myself to failure. The lower rep high weight weeks when I do fall short it’s usually by 1 rep but I do a bit heavier weight.

tomorrow it’s back day which is like my 2nd favorite thing to hit shoulders are my favorite but that’s day 4 in this plan.

Had to go with mid-Day training on this one.

Always a challenge for me.

Workout Day 1 as scheduled.

Tried to perform my working sets as strict & clean as I can.

Coming close to failure but never really getting there.

Hate getting hurt and Rehab makes me crazy.

After my scheduled off day plus a day on Lake Menderchuck,

I was back in the home gym for Workout Day 2.

When I can swing it, I do prefer training in the morning.

On schedule with Workout Day 3.

Had an effective off day yesterday.

Got plenty to eat & drink with a good night sleep.

Applied those efforts in the home gym this morning.

Rarely let's me down.

After plenty of fishing and some recovery time,

it's been 4 straight days since I've been in the home gym.

Don't plan on making that a habit so I was back at it this morning with Workout Day 4.

I did hit the target sets & reps I wanted.

However, a little less resistance was required to keep the whole thing clean.

Workout Day 1 this morning.

I came into this one ready & motivated.

Incidentally, there's almost no chance in my everyday life

that I would have to leg press 400 lbs multiple times.

But if the need ever does arise, I'll be ready.

Workout Day 2 and it ended up being a mid-day deal.

Still prefer training earlier in the day

but I was able to motivate this old bag of bones

to get it done.

After a day on the water yesterday,

I was back in the home gym for Workout Day 5.

Complete 3 working sets on the movements scheduled and finished each off with a drop set;

which I often do but rarely show in the video.  Showing it this time though.

Also, my dog Tank makes a cameo at the end.

Plan on taking the next two days off from training

When the fishing type weather cooperates, my trips into the home gym get a little sporadic

because I'm on the water.

When the fishing weather's sporadic, my workout consistency improves quite a bit.

That's where we are now.

Hate not fishing but do love smashing out workouts on the regular.

Workout Day 2 today.

Completed 3 pretty intense working sets of the 4 movements scheduled.

Showing all of that in this one.

And for those members who also patriciate in some form of regular exercise,

I hope you're making it happen as well.

I miss mowing with the old Lawn Boy's...both are 7268 models from the late 70's, early 80's. Wife dubbed one on the left "Frank" / "Franken-mower" (pieced together from other mowers / parts, and just will not die!). Think I paid $50 for it when living in St. Louis in 1998. Mower on right was picked up a few years ago...my daughter wanted a Lawn Boy of her own to mow yards and make $$ on the side.

Since moving to 3 acres in the country, they get little use now.

The John Deere diesel handles mowing and snow removal now.
