I received a new Powell max 3d 711 spinning rod for christmas. However, there is a manufacturing error. The silver cap that gets screwed up/down along the top part of the reel seat to secure the reel, is configured for a casting setup. the groove that allows it to slide up and down is on the bottom (eyelet side), causing the opening that the reel  would normally slide into to be on top, as if it were for a casting setup, while the actual reel seat itself has the opening on the bottom, on the same side as the eyelets. I have tried contacting powell but they will not pickup. in the event they do not send me a new one, where could i bring this to fix this problem? 

Try to find a local rodbuilder.  It's not exactly an easy fix.

Try calling again after the holidays.

Don't try to fix it.  I doubt if the manufacturer will argue about it, but if it does, do not easily give up.  As stated, that is not an easy or cheap fix and you should not have to deal with fixing it.

An unarguable manufacturing defect. I'm sure Powell will make good. 

Relax man... the rod manufacturer is probably on vacation for the entire week between Christmas and New Years as many businesses are.  If the rod wasn't purchased directly from the rod company, I'd gather the receipt and present the rod to the business from where it was purchased as they should be your 1st recourse.

You should be able to totally unscrew it and rotate it. From the pics I just looked at there would be nothing stopping it. I can do it on my casting rods. It’s accidentally came off when I unscrew the top part too far to remove my reel. 

I have talked to the owner of Powell several times. He will fix it for sure. All of the manufacturers of rods, boats and trailers are all off during these holiday weeks. This is there slow time before they will be getting ready for show season. Call after January 4, 2018 if you can not return it easily from where you purchased it.

I myself am waiting till then to go look at new trailers and found everybody was closed.

Only if the threaded barrel has a groove top and bottom.  I don't think that's the case with that seat. Worth a look though.

Once the egg nog wears off, he'll figure it out...

That might work with a casting rod with smaller guides, but if I'm understanding this issue correctly, you wouldn't get it past the stripper guide of a spinning rod.

Eggnog or not, the threaded barrel only has a groove on one side.

The threaded barrel only has a groove on one side unfortunately and when the cap is rotated it is prevented from sliding back up the barrel. 

So, someone was asleep at the wheel of that build.  Wonder if there's more with this error?
