Shimano Symetre, Gone?

Recommended Posts

One of my favorite models, the Symetre spinning reel is not in the line up in the Shimano catalog. Such a great reel line. I have a 2500, 750 and 500. I used to have a 1500, but sold that a few years ago. I wish I didn't sell that reel.

That reel was the Curado of the spinning reel class. And I really liked the all green color to them.

I hope Shimano brings back the Symetre.

If any of you guys have a Symetre 1500, or Sahara 1500 with spare spool, IM me if you want to sell.

It will be missed. Still one of my favorite reels. Mine is the metal reel with the lubrication port and it was less than $100 when I purchased it.

The nasci is kinda chinky I had one when they first came out I wouldn't recommend it.

is the next step up the Ultegra worth it? I know it has direct drive handle like the stradics which is nice

Nah, I think if your going to spend 150 might as well spend an extra 50 and get a Stradic, the ultegra looks really cool though. As far as the nasci gos I rather have the new Sahara.

If a Stradic isn't in your budget do yourself a favor and get the Daiwa BG. I have fished just about every 50-150 dollar spinner out there and the BG is the best by a good margin (Ultegra is close but would still take a BG). A lot of people get turned off by the weight but in real world use I can hardly tell the difference between it and my Stradic FK.

That reel was killed due to very well known issue with them locking up and the factory had no fix.  Not all of them had a problem, so don't kill me, but enough that it was a well known issue and ended its run. My wife owns one and I pray it does not start doing it.  If I had done some simple research before I got it for her I would have gone a different way. That is on her Irtod Genesis II jig rod.  For her Dobyns frog rod I chose a Pflueger Supreme. That is a nice reel. You might want to look at one of those or go look at one of the Daiwa spinning reels.

BG is a good real but for bass fishing I think the new fuego lt is a better option as far as going with diawa and staying in the 100 range. I was also talking about the Ci4 not the fk however I've heard the fk has gone down significantly in price you can probably find one in the 150 range but I don't have any experience with the fk so I can't say much about it, as far as a new ci4 well I think that's as smooth as you can get for 200 this is just my personal preference.

I think that locking up/binding problem most occurs when the reel get soak in water. I have symetre the gen before they stop production but so far no problem(cross my finger).

Simple fix. The problem is the fiber arbor friction ring that deteriorates over time. Cost a couple of bucks for the replacement ring and you're good to go. Shimano must have gotten deluged with service complaints because of this design issue. They also went up in price considerable for all models. Very disappointing. Switched to Pflueger myself. Better reel in my opinion.
