I am new to fishing. I live in Upstate New York near Onondaga Lake. What would be a good senko color to start with?

Green Pumpkin

Green Pumpkin is the best and most commonly sold, bought and used color.

Besides green pumpkin, I like black/blue flake, baby bass and rainbow trout. 

 

Also, I only use 5" version. 

 

Weightless Texas rig or Wacky rigged. 

I find the June bug color works well. I use bps stick o's, but same concept. 

There are a lot of really good colors on the market and I own about 12 too many colors, because Green Pumpkin, Watermelon/Red Flake, Junebug, Black/Blue Flake and Gray Shad covers most of the bases

I always do good in watermelon red and green pumpkin chartreuse tail 

Yamamoto's #1 selling color in the 5" Senko is #297 Green Pumpkin/Black Fleck.  I have caught fish in all water colors and from Wisconsin to Florida on that color.  It's definitely where I would start.  

Suggested colors, in no order of preference:

 

328, 213, 194, 297, 021, 187, 208, 301.

 

Color depends on water clarity and forage.

 

 

I believe at certain times of the year, it doesn’t matter.  Like the above, GP, BB, JB make up the majority of my plastics. Last weekend, my brother came out with and started throwing all my “off color” plastics, weightless wacky and caught  the snot out of them. It was clearly the presentation. Mid summer, who knows........but so far this year Orange to purple to PBJ is all working.

Green pumpkin is probably the best color to start with.

My favorite Yamamoto color for any of their plastics is Baby Bass (305).  Their most popular senko color I believe is the Green Pumpkin/Red Watermelon Laminate (925) which was a color idea of Andy Cuccia (RIP).

I’m glad y’all don’t happen to like the green pumpkin/green watermelon laminate (912) as much as I do!

Motor Oil consistently outproduces any other color for me. 

I follow the same rule for almost all plastics, Senkos included: Anything with the words "pumpkin", "watermelon", "candy", "grass", or "magic" in the name.

I’ve always used cinnamon brown. Looks just like a worm. 

 

 

Weird it’s not more popular. Maybe it is. 

Yum dingers in Green Pumpkin Red Flake and Junebug are my go to colors.

This may sound dumb, but lately bubble gum has been my color. I’ve had success with 297 and pumpkin color as well. A lot has to do with how clear your water is and how pressured the fish are.

Green pumpkin is safe but sometimes/occasionally doesn’t do well because it’s a tad too plain - especially in stained/darker water.  Give it a twist - with a white under belly.  Check out Kalin’s WAC-O-Worm in Baby Bass.  Does what Pumpkin Green does, but doesn’t get lost in dull water.  Best all round color for clear or dark water or anything in between... hands down.

Black with blue flake but any dark color does the trick. I have fished tons of these things and it seems patience and presentation is more important than color.
