What is the ultimate 1/2oz Jig combo?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am wondering what you would consider (price no concern) the ultimate combo for 1/2 -3/4 oz Jigs. I would like to narrow it down to 'non-custom' combos.

* Rod: ?
* Reel: ?
* Line: ?

Thanks all.

Cheers,
Seb.

More information is needed. Deep water fishing football jigs, pitching jigs around docks, etc? This will help to better recommend the correct rod, reel, and line best suited.

I don't buy combos for more than $250. And don't spend over $25 On a spool of line. And never pay full price. Always on sale. So in my experience

Dobyns fury 735

Daiwa tatula sv 7:1 or 8:1

Sunline Assassin 17-20lb

I have 2 of these exact same combos. And with them I fish pitching, swimming, football, and skirtless jigs from 3/8 to 3/4 ounce.

I'm really happy with the combo I'm using now for pitching and casting 1/2oz jigs to cover.

I pondered this question this spring and ended up with the following:

Megabass FMJ

sv103 w/ 1016sv spool

40lb Power Pro or 16lb Sniper.

This combo is amazing for 1/2oz jigs and a ton of other stuff as well.

Great choice. But the OP didn't specify whether he was pitching docks or throwing football jigs deep. If he was fishing football jigs then I would choose the Valdivia but the FMJ is awesome for pitching jigs around docks.

I try to keep my rods as close to 7’ max legnth as I can, so the FMJ was the obvious choice for me.

There are a lot of great jig rods but the FMJ is among the best as its a beast of a jig rod. I own one as well!

For me it came down to legnth. The shorter NRX’s don’t get much love and it’s hard to find a bad thing written about the FMJ, so that settled it for me.  It’s an odd-feeling rod, it’s so light that it feels fragile, but it’s got a lot of power and it casts into the lower end of it’s range quite well.

FMJ for me as well! I'll have either a Steez A or SV103H on it; Sunline Sniper 16# on the stock spool and 40# Sufix 832 on the 1016 spool. The SV103 seems to be on there the most lately.  Great combo.

7'mh-f standard avid

7:1 tatula ct

20# sunline shooter

Thats my jig setup.

I was using 40# braid but got tired of it. Kept digging into spool and using flouro leaders also for abrasion, so i went back to straight flouro. No dig in, and one knot.

What is the ultimate 1/2oz Jig combo?

The one on the deck of my boat & no you can't use it!

I start with a favorite defender 7'6" heavy fast (surprise surprise ?) and a tatula fuego CT reel. If I had to do it over again I would get an SV spooled reel, but I'm not losing sleep over it. Maybe when the tatula 100 sv comes out or when I can afford a zillion. For the $155 bucks or so I got into it, no complaints.

As you can see everyone has their own opinion based on what they use.  Not many have tried every possibility...in every type of situation...in order to answer that question.

Gonna get some hate but

Revo ALX 8.01 got for $100 on ebay

I got the 4MH 7'6 paired with a Steez SV TW and 12 pound Shooter. Unbelievable combo. Will write a little review after some more tests.
