Man I've despised those PWCs for years.  But now they're making it hard to hate them.  Take a look at this:

btw - while I may have noted my disdain for these watercraft in the past, truth is it's not the machine itself but the human's who are thumbing the throttle and the decisions they make while doing it.

Saw something like this years ago on a fishing show. They took it out to some kelp beds and fished for snapper. Looked pretty easy except for the problem of current or wind. As long as you don't want to fish one spot exactly its a nice idea.

No trolling motor?  

I'm assuming power poles are extra?

Talked to a guy at the boat ramp a couple of years ago who had his decked out for fishing.  He fishes locally and he and a buddy ride their's from Wilmington, NC to the Bahamas once a year.

I don't particularly like having them buzzing around me while I'm fishing, but if I had one, I'd hop on it in a heartbeat for a flight around the lake.  I'm 78 years young.  Still enjoy speed. 

  

Like anything else, it is the human driving them. I actually have more problems with pontoon idiots. That said my nephew converted his and it is a great set-up that can cover a lot of water. He even uses it for stripers

This right here^^ seems like everyone on one is either a D-bag or some kid acting a fool. 

I did see a guy this weekend fishing out of a regular one though. Looked like he modified it to hold rods and some boxes. Also had some kind of little lawnmower looking motor rigged on the front. Never saw anyone fishing from one. 

This is my time of year, from Labor Day to Memorial day.  Few pwc's.  Few rocket bass boats.

This.  I don't know what it is, but put a reasonable person behind the wheel of a toon, and it get stupid, quick.

 

There at least three jet skis rigged for fishing around the bay I live near.  based on the tackle they're using, I'd say they are very recreational anglers, not the typical die hard that we are.  I figure, hey go for it.  At least while they're trying to fish, they might see how obnoxious driving affects others and maybe drive with better intent.

Considering what it would cost for one of these I would rather spend the money on a decent boat. 

This makes me hate them less how? There's one guy in VA beach who's been doing silly things with fishing rods and a jet ski for a while. Motorized, or human powered roto molded, silly is silly. GARB!

Agree with AJay it's not the vessel it's the drivers behavior operating them.

I was a teenager and raced nearly everything, water skied since age 6 and will admit disturbed my share of fishermen. We didn't have a jet ski and would have been a pain in the arse if they were availble. Sometimes it's hard to remember we were all teenagers and survived to be older and wiser. I wish I was in good enough physical condition to act like a kid again and race a personal water craft around the lake.

Jet ski's are the worst, until you're on one. Then they are pretty cool.

That is bold! Just googled the distance.. 747 miles. Sure hate to get caught in a storm enroute.

During the spawning times of the year wouldn't this be a bad thing if it takes off? I'd imagine that it would destroy beds, suck up and spit out thousands of fry and overall be a not so good thing for the bass fisherman and the bass. I'd imagine being blasted by the jet and slammed into a rock or other underwater structure could seriously hurt or even kill an adult bass.

Huh?  Why would it make a difference if it a prop a foot under the water or jet in inches?  They both do the same thing, just one is an enclosed system.

Just my opinion but it doesn't seem like a great combo, fishing and Jet Skiing. Mixing a relatively slow sport with a fast one.

 

I can't imagine jumping waves with all that equipment on the back. I can see rods and tackle flying off into the depths. Looks like it will get you to your fishing spot fast though.

Seems like this problem has been worked out over 50 years of making bass boats that have safe storage.  I mean, the rods and rear storage are all locked in.

Most bass anglers will be using the trolling motor to get around once they're in the area. If the PWC doesn't have a similar option how else would they get around? 

 

Doesn't the traditional prop more or less cut it's way thru the water, while the jet relies on pressure to propel itself?

No, both drives methods have prop wash.  A trolling motor is all it takes to disturb a nest.  Also, a jet drive doesn't have to operate at full throttle, just like a prop drive.

1st off I fish in a peddle powered kayak and slowly putt thru these areas in question. I don't even bed fish as I don't really see it as a sporty way to fish. My view on it is even the bass boats are somewhat destructive to these areas depending on who's at the helm. I'm not against the PWC as a fishing vessel as long as the driver is aware of the potential harm he or she may be causing and exercises some common sense. Same really goes for those spot jockey boats.

 

It doesn't look like a bad product, although somewhat pricey. I'd probably go with a boat before I'd consider one, but can still see the value in possibly owning one.
