Tim Kelly Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Just officially called off our trip to Holland which was due next week. Everywhere's shut and the boarders are getting more restricted, so it's not going to happen. Spain in May is probably banjaxed too. Fingers crossed for Canada in August, if we're still alive.   1 Quote

Lodge is offering some very attractive $$ in hopes of getting replacement bassheads down there. Unfortunately no way to know what the future will bring. Hoping this mess is a bad memory sooner rather than later - for both of us.  212 days and a Wake Up. A-Jay  1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 22, 2020 Author Super User Posted March 22, 2020 Pro's vs Joes . . . LAKE FORK, Texas – After a record-breaking week on Lake Fork, it should come as no surprise that the 80 MLF pros totaled a whopping 80 bass over the weight of 6 pounds: 36 6-pounders, 22 7-pounders, 13 8-pounders, seven 9-pounders and two 10-plus-pounders. Justin Atkins caught the largest bass in MLF history with his 10-pound, 8-ounce Lake Fork monster, and Jason Christie caught a 10 and a 9 on the same day!  So they started with 80 guys fishing 6 days for 44 over 7lbs and including 2 over 10 lbs  Not Bad.  And then there’s Lake Baccarac Lodge ~ Fishing 6 days in Oct 2018, Big Fish Jeff & I didn’t do too bad either. While we did not count the 6 pound fish (there were too many of them) here the numbers for TWO Anglers  Our 53 bass over 7 pounds broke down like this 20 Bass Over 7lbs ~ 20 16 Bass Over 8lbs ~ 16 11 Bass Over 9lbs ~ 11 4 Bass Over 10 lbs ~ 4 1 Bass Over 11 lbs ~ 1 (11.30 lbs) 1 bass Over 12 lbs ~ 1 (12.23 lbs)  Numbers don't lie.  A-Jay 3 Quote

What that number may actually represent ~  Going to fish a body on water, that very well might be The Very Best Giant Bass Lake on the Planet. One that has produced so many true Monster Bass over the past 20 years it's mind blowing. A lake that doesn't get a ton of pressure and is managed effectively to keep it fertile & healthy.  Now let's imagine for a moment, that due to circumstances no one could see coming, there's been virtually Zero bass fisherman fishing for these Mutant Bass for over 6 months. And YOU will be one of if Not THE FIRST basshead to get a crack at them. Can't wait to hear that report !  Good Luck Sleeping as your fly-in date approaches. . . . . . . A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted July 2, 2020 Super User Posted July 2, 2020 What's the word on the border with Mexico remaining closed when your trips get here? I've been following this thread and every time I see an update I think of it. If I had a trip like this planned, it would certainly cross my mind on a regular basis. Super User king fisher Posted July 3, 2020 Super User Posted July 3, 2020 Boarder of Mexico is not closed. I live in Puerto Vallarta, and see flights come in from the states every day. I have friends with US pass ports that have flown from here, to the states, and returned with no problems all through this pandemic. My wife might have to go to Florida next week and is able to get flights there, and back with her Mexican pass port, and US tourist visa. The situation doesn't look like it will change in the near future. I wouldn't worry about legally getting in and out. As far as your health goes there is some concern. The virus is way under reported in Mexico. Most deaths from Covid are reported as Pneumonia, and little to no testing is being done. Most people are wearing masks and taking the virus seriously. Many people here realize they have to make sacrifices in order to get the tourists back as soon as possible.  Local economies are hurting way worse than in the states, but so far no more crime than usual ( which in most of the country is less than most large cities in the US). That may change if the tourists don't start coming back in the fall. People here don't get a stimulus check, and many have no savings, or retirement plan. When times get tough they traditionally move in with more fortunate family members, which in this case makes the virus situation worse.       I haven't had the opportunity to fish Baccarac, but fish a small lake near Tepic, and lake Chapala.  Both are fishing very well right now. Was going to fish the small lake this weekend, but was talked in to helping a friend chase cow tuna instead. Hope to get after the giant bass the following weekend. I haven't heard of anyone fishing Baccarac in weeks, and don't expect many will until the summer is over.  Should be incredible this fall. Good luck. 2 1 Quote

Are you sure about that? Everything I’ve read and heard is that the border with Canada and Mexico is closed except for essential activities.  https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2020-06-16/us-borders-with-mexico-canada-to-remain-closed-over-coronavirus-concerns Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 3, 2020 Author Super User Posted July 3, 2020 Lake Baccarac Lodge is traditionally not operating during the rainy season; June(ish) thru at least mid - September. So the current Border status is less of a concern to us. The last Information from the Lodge we received indicates that the Mexican Government has not yet 'authorized' the re-opening of non-essential businesses; which includes hunting & fishing lodges. Hoping that changes sooner rather than later. Our trip/flights are totally booked & paid for well in advance of our travel days. If there's any hang-ups, we'll re-book and go when we can. Not much else we can do at this point but wait & see. A-Jay 2 Quote

I also know of a few Mexicans with US tourist visas, that have gone to the states, and came back within the last few weeks.  I could give dozens of examples. Regardless of what you have heard or read, the boarder is not and has not been closed. Maybe there is no definition of essential activities. I don't know.  I have not heard of anyone having to even give a reason for travelling in either direction.                                      Canada and Alaska requires any one coming from Mexico to self quarantine for two weeks. I know some people that have left here for both Canada, and Alaska. They were required to self quarantine but know one followed up to see if they did. My friend from Alaska has his own small plane and flew it to his cabin in the bush as soon as he got to Anchorage. He self quarantines all summer every summer, so nothing has changed for him. Some other states may also require you to quarantine I don't have any first hand knowledge about that. I do know for sure WA FL. and CA do not require a person to quarantine.  I personally know people who have traveled to one of those three states, from PV in the last few weeks. 1 Quote
